Amiga 1200 HD boost... good or bad idea?
« on: March 05, 2007, 04:24:48 AM »
I was told the limit for a hard drive's capacity on the 1200 with OS3.1 is 4GB.

I found a relatively cheap 3.2GB 2.5" HD on eBay. See Item number: 220087453103

Is this a good idea to buy this drive and put it in a A1200 or is there some catch 22 I haven't figured out?

There is 39 of them in stock.

The only 'catch' might be slow spinup, but that could probably be solved by reset.
Slight annoyance is that screws are moved, so you'll have to modify cradle or something..
That '4Gb limit' can be easily solved, its been discussed extensively here. I'd suggest you get PFS3 in any case.
Better sorry than worry.

Considering the very low price, I decided to chance it... turns out to be a very good idea after all.

The drive was just like new, formatted well and is quite fast compared to the original 40MB drive that was in there.

It was extremely well protected for shipping.
