AmigaOne help
« on: December 27, 2002, 05:20:50 AM »
Sorry Wayne you locked the thread  before I could post an answer and help the poor fellow.

Okay if you are having problems installing Linux on the Amiga one
Here are some of the frequent problems and the answers

P: If you did not set your password or used the CD to recover a failed install
A: login as root remember linux is case sensitive
Password just hit carriage return (enter )

P:Yast does not run
A:Try reseting  the RTC if it is hung Yast bombs
date reset       :resets the clock
date 122620302002     :sets the date to December 26 2002 8:30 pm /format month-day-time-year

P:If Linux bombs during the install scripts after Yast shuts down
A:Try this before starting  Yast make sure SUSE disk one is in CD drive.
setenv bootargs root=3d/dev/ram rw ramdisk=23000 ide=nodma

P: No available keymaps for machine ppc found
A: ignore no available keymaps for machine PPC found
SUSE Linux when it see's a PPC assumes it's a MAC so It spazes when it does not see a MAC keymap
file.

P:checking file system
fsch 1.24 (02-sep-2001)
devhda3:clean,
fsck.ext2:bad magic number in superblock
while trying to open dev/hda1
(null):
fsck failed please fix manualy and reboot
the root file system is mounted read only.
A: you made your boot partition "bootable"
Don't!  right now you are booting off a kernal image not a filesystem.
Fix  don't make boot partition "bootable" during install.
Fix2: If you have a working install and want to remove this problem
Using a text editor edit "fstab" and delete the line that contains your boot partition.

P: can't run sax2 using a Radeon card
A: ask you AmigaOne dealer for the latest Radeon driver.

P: UAE asks for the romkey
A: purchase Amigaforever from Clanto or you nearest Amiga Dealer

Hope this helps
Kurt

Thanks for the help Kurt.
I have now logged in, and it comes up with a

(none):~# prompt.

Should I now run fsck manually?

Everyone, I ran fsck manually.
I am now at the Linux logon screen, but...the keyboard and mouse have stopped working.

The whole system seems to have crashed. :-(

Try ctrl-alt-F2 (or another F1-F4 key)
If that brings you to a console, then your system isn't frozen - it's just X playing up.

If you press ctrl-alt-backspace you kill the X-session and go back to a console.
