My BBS is online for testing / fixing small issues
« on: September 17, 2010, 07:46:15 AM »
Hey guys and girls.

I have put my BBS online, but it is very very far from ready and is mainly online for testing.

There are only 2 door games available at the moment and no file downloads for now. There is much much much more work to be done, and progress is fast :)

Anyway...  You can telnet to: heavybbs.dyndns.org if you wanna try it.

There is only 1 Node for now. I will add another 3 hopefully later on. So if you try and connect and its busy, try again later :P

TWO issues that need immediate sorting are:

[A] Since i dont have a fixed IP, there is a chance that the IP address might change. I dont think anytime soon but it might change at some point. I will try and sort it out later on today.

I just noticed today when i logged in from work that when i press a KEY or type the letters are coming in double (lliikkee tthhiiss)

Can anyone confirm problem B for me? and does anyone know how to fix it?

Any tips for problem A ?

Thanks very very much.

Once BBS is ready there will be MASSIVE Amiga file areas and Amiga sections :P So stay tuned and have faith in me :)

Really? It worked well as in no eecchhoo?

Tribbs because I know it pretty well since I ran a tribbs based bbs back in 1996 for about 3 years.

I don't know anyone who actually LIKES tribbs, except maybe the sysops who bought it. It was very expensive as I recall since it had its own internal multitasking like major bbs, but the whole interface for the user is really shitty in my opinion.

Q dosn't quit the menu your own, it usually does something else, its very nonsensical I think.

I'd rather go on any renegade, synchronet, telegard, pcboard, mystic or anything other than tribbs, unless they had a huge bunch of warez or something, then I'd deal with it... :)

Since you already have a dyndns.org address you only have to update that when your IP changes. And you can automate that with a script that runs like once a day. Maybe twice, but don't go any more than that or they consider it abuse of the system.

Check the dyndns.org website. They used to have scripts and little programs to do that for you. You could also look online or write one yourself.

Thanks... That helped. I downloaded their updater and it works brilliantly :)

Some file areas (including Amiga) should be up later on today

I am seeing that a lot of people are not too keen on TriBBS, so i have started messing about with Syncronet and even though i know TriBBS inside out I have a lot of faith in Syncronet and I do accept that it is better.

I am seriously considering moving the BBS to this platform. Maybe as soon as today.

Will keep you posted.
