Quake and abuse problems
« on: December 31, 2002, 10:41:55 PM »
I'm using GLQuakeWOS and have the  full version, everything works fine until it's time to start the demo1 then GLQuakeWOS brakes and give the following message in a CLI window:

"I_Error: Hunk_Alloc: failed on 1544814608bytes"
"disconnecting server..."

The demo version works fine and I get the same thing no matter how many different full versions I test.

When I have started abuse and launched the game and after a moment I get the following in a CLI window:
"lispi tmp space resized to 16384"
"bus error"

I have tryed different exe files and versions and also different options but with no change.

Anyone have any ides what it can be?

Just a guess; maybe you need to increase the stacksize ? Have the ClickBoom quake around here somewhere, but can't rember any problems with it except altering the stack size...

Other then that, no idea, sorry..

Sounds to me like you may have a problem in your pak file(s), not the executable itself.

If you have "optimised" the pak using pakman or similar tool, or edited it in any way, try deleting it and replace it with the clean file from the game CD. This might make a difference.

I have now concluded that every version except GLQuake and BlitzQuake make good use of my Quake wad files.

And GLQuake only blanked and freeze after I hade removed the glquake drawer.

Any other suggestions?

You didn't say if you restored the original pak files or not. I optimized a pak file using pakman and found it worked on every version of quake except GLQuake. There it just crashed.

uhm, that should not happen.... quake should write a new glquake drawer and lotsa stuff inside it....

There was a bug in the latest version of Abuse that manifests itself on *some* systems. I suggest you go back one version (1.2 ? It's been so long ago...).
