Title: A games thread
Post by: ElPolloDiabl on May 10, 2010, 03:07:28 PM
Hi, post anything you want about games. It doesn't have to be Amiga specific. You might want to put in games you are playing now or some forgotten games that shouldn't be missed.

I've got the RPG bug again and plan to have another turn of Pools of Darkness.

At the moment I'm still trying to finish Dragon Age.  I keep setting it down as it gets to to be too much of the same.

Defender of the Crown has been getting the most play lately. CD-i and Amiga versions. Just a fun and quick diversion.

Wish I had the discipline to set aside more time for more in-depth gaming, but one of these days  :)

I mostly use games to test the compatibility of whatever Amiga project I happen to be assembling, but I always seem to get hooked on Agony for at least a couple of levels.

Defender of the Crown

This made me wonder. I remember in the old days on Amiga I used to play the same game over and over again non-stop!! However I only play the games of today once or twice! I do not know why? Maybe because they are too long?

Sometimes I still play Colonization!!

I do most of my gaming on the xbox360 these days.  I love playing games from the couch on a big screen.  It's also nice not having to worry about hardware requirements as all 360 games always run which sorta reminds me of the early days of computing when an Apple II or C64 games always ran consistently from machine to machine.  Seems like every time I ran a game on a Windows box it needed software, OS and driver updates.

Anyway, I'm currently finishing up Bioshock 2 and will start Dragon Age soon.  I also play Borderlands when friends are available to play with.

I play MAME and Amiga games when I need a quick game fix of 10 or 15 minutes.

Dragon age is the best RPG since Planescape. Unfortunately, there are some boring parts in the middle, which reduces the replay value considerably (I'm going to play through the Tower of Ishal for the 30th time later tonight. :D

Best RPG ever: Paper Mario, and Paper Mario thousand year door

just kidding, my kids learned to read playing Paper Mario. They are fun to play.

I've kept my pc up to date using ~100 dollar upgrades every once in a while. I've spent way over the price of a 360 though...hmmmm...

pools of darkness is a great great game ...
the beginning might be a little slow, but you'll quickly get into it.
btw, I'ld highly recommended starting from Curse if haven't played the earlier games ...

I recently finished the curse of monkey island, if you're a fan of adventure games and nice graphics don't miss it. My favourite bit was el pollo loco, the devil chicken.

I'm back to Neuromancer, and Ultima III.  I will also probably get into Wasteland again sometime soon.  Whenever I start feeling a little nostalgic I'm always called back to these titles for some reason.

@Fanscale
curse of monkey island is one of alltime favorite games. Weirdly though I didnt like it when it was 1st released, possibly because I loved the 1st 2 on Amiga and I knew no.3 wouldnt be possible on amiga, plus at 1st it appears pretty different, and I was also stuck at the very beginning. It wasnt until I was using amithlon/os3.9 and a bppc owning friend recommended I try it using scummvm that I gave it a fair chance. Glad I did too as it's a great game. Ive never laughed out loud so often and heavily over a video game before. I strongly recommend anyone who hasnt played it to give it a try.

As far as new games go though, Im currently enjoying Mirrors Edge on XB360, gives a good feeling of immersion.

I finally finished God of War 1 this Saturday. On Sunday I reassembled my A4000 after a few weeks - CPU overclock, new fans, video switch etc. and started playing Frontier.... again.

I just bought Need for Speed shift and the settlers 2 10th anniversary, both for the PC. Can't bloody play NFS due to needing a better GFX card-I remember now why I stopped buying PC games. Settlers on the other hand had me up till 2am one night to which I thought.....cool, this is a good game. Just like the 1st only with different graphics.

Super Mario Bros on the NES every so often when I need to blow 10 minutes.

Hi again Mr Rabbit!

As for "forgotten" games: You (all) haven't missed Syberia have you ? Sadly I got the chance to play the second episode which I finished and never bothered with the first one later simply because of that, to my regret of course. :(

I'm playing Baldur's Gate right now, using the BGII engine, so I can export my characters over. I'd love it for someone to make a BG type game for the Amiga. I'd help provide sprite graphics for it.
