Hi guys what do you think that is the best looking game on the Amiga?
-
I guess it depends.
If you break it down a bit:
OCS/ECS game: A lot of candidates. Agony is gorgeous, the original Shadow of the Beast was something never seen before on home computers.
The Settlers, if you factor in how many little guy's the game is animating and keeping track of.
AGA: Banshee, maybe? Might be more technically impressive games, but it's got loads of detail, lots of colour and it's well drawn and animated
"Big" titles (CD rom etc): Onescapee or Genetic Species ? Both are stunning considering the hardware they can run on.
-
Hi:
I would love shadow of the beast series.
-
On OCS Lionheart looks really impressive as well.
On AGA Banshee and Slam Tilt are the first that come to my mind.
-
I was always impressed by Deliverance, amazing work with the original chipset.

-
Thanks guys i will have a look at these games later :-)
-
What, no one likes the Cinemaware titles like Wings or It Came From the Desert? Even Rocket Ranger has some excellent screens in it. Good stuff, me thinks.
-
Depends on how you rate stuff.
A game like Galactic is amazingly busy for an Amiga I think, and the style is one I like too.
The Danes did a lot of stunners IMO. Take a look at a lot of the Discovery and Innerprise stuff (Hybris, Sword of Sodan, Battle Squadron). I love that style.
-
I think one also has to mention Another World(and Flashback) which really was innovative in terms of graphics.
-
Trolls looked quite good. My 6 year old daughter loves it.
-
Yes !!! I love Cinemaware too !!! rocket ranger !!!
defender of the crown
and Microprose:
Gunship-pirates
-
Yeap, my thoughts to..
OCS/ECS: Agony, Project X, Superfrog have impressive graphics while maintaining an ultra smooth frame rate. However, the list can be expanded to include several other titles from different genres as well, like MKII, Walker, Ruff 'n Tumble, SOTB series.. You know the drill here, just check the list of Psygnosis, Team17, Core et al. publishers :P
Still, I am visually in love with Flight of the Amazon Queen, since I believe that the main character is probably the best drawn/animated/controlable OCS human figure ever.
AmigaCD OnEscapee I believe has the most impressive artwork.
AGA.. hmm dunno I really like Aladdin but the fps rate really sucked compared to other ports of the game imho. Exodus has excellent background images (and imho is better than Napalm overal, but that's a different question :P). Again here the list is rather bog.. for example Fightin Spirit was awesomely drawn as well!

Here are some nice looking games for OCS/ECS Amigas:
For some reason the image links aren't working for me Cammy.
Has anyone mentioned Gods? Great looking scroller.
Or Agony...
-
Most aesthetically pleasing game I tried was Microcosm on CD32.
Soccer Kid was super cute.
-
Hi guys what do you think that is the best looking game on the Amiga?
I quite like uridium 2.
-
Hi guys what do you think that is the best looking game on the Amiga?
maybe not best looking ..but i can watch the tutorial of battle chess on my cd32 again an again ..wish it was aga
-
Agony is gorgeous
I know people are usually thrilled with Agony's graphics, but I've always found it somehow depressing.
There are two Stardust games and Roadkill. Also, Aladdin and Lion King.
I'll try to think of some more...

Thanks for your input :)

Even if I haven't played them a ton, I'll throw in a vote for the Ishar series too. For the "fake 3D" rpg types, they are propably the epitome of nice graphics.
-
Hybris and Battle Squadron have my vote in ECS/OCS
-
I quite like uridium 2.
Hi i have just played urdium 2, on my amiga 4000 it was on my hard disk :) quite a cool game
-
I was going to say Microcosm, may not have the best game play but graphics wise for a basic AmigaCD32 I think its the best their is. Rise of Robots also looks good, but unfortunately plays even worst!
Clickboom games where all of high quality too, Napalm, T-Zero, and Capital Punishment.
Another game I only found played a few months ago that has quite a nice stly graphics to it is Blade Warrior, game play not amazing, but worth taking a look ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgIKO8uG6lo )
-
Some of the adventure games probably qualify too. Both Beneath a Steel Sky and Simon the Sorcerer look great.
-
Cannon Fodder looks good, and also Fightin' Spirit. (both A500 games)
Another vote for Lionheart as well.
-
Lionheart is a bit stiff in the animations I think, but I think it's a good example of everything having a great atmosphere. I love the sort of "fantasy horror" feel.
Others that spring to mind like that are Darkmere (which I still have to sit down and figure out) and the second Shadow of the Beast.
What about Heimdall 2? It's a bit cartoonish but very well done, visually.
-
ECS/OCS I vote for GODS. But GODS is just a great game.
AGA, I keep thinking about Breathless.
-
@yssing,
Hmmm Breathless or Genetic species...
-
Yes !!! I love Cinemaware too !!! rocket ranger !!!
defender of the crown
and Microprose:
Gunship-pirates
Agree with your Defender of the Crown, Rocket Ranger and pirates..
but I was disappointed with Gunship, I thought it only looked moderately better than the C64 version.
-
What about flight sim's? Within the limits of polygons I suppose, but I recall Combat Air Patrol looked pretty wild, at times.
-
How about:
MS Flight Simulator - For the time, it was amazing graphics compared to the other computers running the same game.
Defender of the Crown was drop dead gorgeous. Jim Sachs is the Bob Ross of computer graphics...
-P
-
Wasn't there some robot fighting game that nobody seemed to like after it came out but it had some super awesome graphics?

That would be rise of the robots :)
-

HI i have just tried Combat air patrol on my amiga 4000 :) i have over 10 gig of games on that, so when you write a game i should try, i just go in and see if it is on the hard disks and they almost all are :-) very nice game.
-

yes Agony is a very good looking game.
-

Rise of the robots was a good looking game, but the gameplay was not :)
-
And i must say that i find old games more special and creative than new games, they had some cool ideas, how to make games special back in the day :)
-
I was always impressed by Deliverance, amazing work with the original chipset.
http://www.lemonamiga.com/?game_id=315
I have to try that game :)
-
I remembered Little Divil :) Has top notch cartoon graphics.
Also Wasted Dreams, Chaos Engine, Nippon Safes Inc (but pretty much all adventure games have nice graphics).
-
Deliverance always made a big impression on me. But it's hard to name a definitive best looking game IMO.
-
A game that impressed me at the time (and I was a huge fan of the arcade game) was Dragon's Lair.
The conversion of the animation was pretty darn good, full screen, and streaming from floppies...
(And required 1M RAM, UNLESS you had an Amiga 1000, where it could use the kickstart RAM space. Tricky there.. Not sure any other game did that..)
For the time, that was impressive...

Thanks i will have to check it out :)

Agree
-
The Sentinel is great looking regardless of system. I just really enjoy those simple vector graphics and the weird perspective distortion, and it all really fits with the mood of the game.
For a less controversial pick I guess I'd say Another World.
-
Going on looks alone
Don Bluth games - Dragons Lair 3 and Space Ace.
Cover Girl Strip Poker - Could look at Maria all day
Heart of China.
Captain Blood
Elite 2 Frontier
Alien Breed 3D 2
Lost In Mine
-
Wendetta 2175 had good graphics, but it was totally misplaced though.
-
Flink and KangFu are kind of special in using chipset tricks, at least KangFu does it, not sure how Flink does it's job but it also seems very colorfull and has good character animation.
-
Both are AGA only too, I love stuff that tried to push the limits of the AGA chipset.
-

Hi i have to try them :)
-
Beast 1 Forest.
-
Technically speaking, Elfmania's gfx seemed like that of an arcade coin op. Ditto for Shadow Fighter on AGA - especially after enabling the speed-up hidden mode and you literally can't believe it's an Amiga moving all those things (see the subway level) at that speed!
-
Hmmm, thats are hard one for me as I never really experienced a massive range of Amiga games as we couldnt afford many when I was younger.
For me I would have to say (in my opinion):
OCS/ECS - Simon the Sorcerer or The Settlers or Superfrog
AGA (native) - The Shadow of the Third Moon or Slamtilt
AGA (ported) - Simon the Sorcerer 2
-
I really like the graphic style of Ruff N Tumble. Looks AGA, even though it's not. I don't recall it having parallax scrolling though.
Desert Strike had nice graphics too generally better than the Megadrive/Genesis version.
-
There sure is some cool and good looking games for the Amiga :) It is easy to see that it boosted superior graphics in the 80s, when you look at the other console/computers from that era.
