Facebook profile entry field
« on: March 28, 2011, 11:09:17 PM »
Hi all,

The facebook ID entry field in our profiles is very confusing indeed.  The actual Facebook ID number is not obvious, so most people don't understand what they're supposed to enter in there.  I myself put my Facebook profile name in it the first time, because I didn't know what else the ID could be, and then I found that my facebook button didn't work.

Eventually I found out how to find my Facebook profile ID number so I entered that in there and now it's all working.  But I have since tried clicking on other peoples' facebook buttons and they fail in the same way that mine originally did, so I don't think I'm the only one that's confused about what to enter into this field.

AH.

How about telling the others how you found your account number?

I'll give it a go :)

Log in by putting your E-mail address and password in the two fields and then click on 'Profile' at the top right of the screen. You should then see something like this in the top of your browser:-

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?id=1001880277

In the above example, the number 1001880277 on the end is your account number :)

However, you do not use this number to log into facebook or to allow people to find you on facebook. The way to allow someone to find you on facebook if there are hundreds of other people with the same name as you, is to PM them the E-mail address connected to the account. Once they put that into the search box they will find you unless you have your privacy settings set so that you cannot be found :)

EDIT - Oooops! I shouldn't post with tired brain cell at 2:28am. Of course you can send the whole link including the number to a friend so that they can find you :D

I only see my chosen Facebook name, no number is visible.

http://www.facebook.com/

I think the number is only visible if you forgot to choose a username.

Hi Argo - thanks for the response.  Sorry for the late reply on my behalf - it appears that as the thread starter I wasn't automatically subscribed to the thread for some reason.

Okay, the only way I know to obtain your facebook account number is to go into your photos and open one up (any one, doesn't matter.  But they must be YOUR photos).  Then the account number is displayed in the address bar.

Take one of my photos as an example.  If I open it up, this is displayed in the address bar:

My profile number is 100001138982148.  If I enter this number into my facebook entry on the a.org user account page then the Facebook link works.

Your Facebook link isn't working either Argo.  Try my instructions for yourself and see if you can get it working!

Thanks,

AH

I just tried that and it doesn't work for me.  However, the id was shown in the browser status bar at the bottom of the screen when I hovered over my profile picture.
