WinUAE using all my CPU

I was using WinUAE regularly up until about 6 months ago, I just reinstalled AIAB and now WinUAE is pushing my CPU up to 100% and my system becomes really unstable.

I don't remember it being like this when I used to use it. Is it meant to be like this?

I have an AMD 1800XP, 512MB Ram

And running AIAB default setup.

Which version on of WinUAE are you using?

Taking 100% CPU-power is a part of WinUAE's nature, but it's rarely unstable according to my own experience.

Im using the latest WinUAE, if its meant to use all the CPU then thats OK, I just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong.

 Yup!  WinUAE sometimes pushes my CPU diode temp to 70C!  *Alarms go off ruining my pinball games*  So I ordered a new HSF for my AMD 2600+  :-D

What version of Windows?

Is your machine stable under high load generally?

Im using XP Professional, and its not really becoming unstable but it is really sluggish. Even in WinUAE I open a txt file and it takes about 30 - 60 seconds to open.

It also takes about 2 mins to boot in WinUAE.

Im using a Kickstart 3.1 Rom and WB 3.1

This sounds very similar to a problem I had.  It was taking forever to access any files, but winUAE was quite nippy when working from stuff already loaded.
The solution for my problem was to go to the Misc tab in WinUAE and change the "When Active" priority from Above Normal (Which I'd set it to originally) back to Normal.

Gee, I have a P2 350 and WinUAE 088 R8 runs perfectly most OCS/ECS games
Newer versions have delayed sound. CPU too slow?
Dunno, overall gameplay's fluid. AGA is sloppy also CPU too slow or is WinUAE still not perfect?

Sounds pretty normal to me.  Performance tends to be very inconsistent.  Using 0.8.22 R7, I noticed a huge LOSS in performance when I switched from an Athlon 1600+ and a VIA chipset to an Athlon 2600+ and an nForce2 chipset.  Now on my P4, I seem to get performance just in-between.

Of course, this is with JIT turned off and running OCS games.  If I turn on JIT, Workbench goes berserk and I can't double-click any icons.  Running AIAB, the machine is ultra-fast and I have no trouble, though it has brought down Win2K very hard on occasion.  I've never seen anything other than flakey freeware games do that.

Isn't emulation great?   ;-)

It uses my CPU 100% too.
But never had stability problems with my Athlon 2800+ , 1GB RAM.

Just set UAE to run at NORMAL under the misc tab.

Thanks everyone, I seem to have fixed it.

I setup Workbench from scratch on my own and played with a few settings and now I have it running fine.
