real amiga scsi and winuae
« on: June 22, 2003, 10:36:04 PM »
Im running win xp and and the latest winue. Ive heard it supports real amiga hard drives. I would like to boot or access the real amiga formated hd in winuae but ive had no luck. It doesnt even show up in winuea. I moved my amiga hard drive to a pc isa scsi device. If windows cant read the amiga file system, (no drive icon in windows)how can winuae. Also if anyone knows anyway with amithalon or amigaxl that would be fine. thanks

Haven't tried using a SCSI Amiga drive in WinUAE, but have successfully used an IDE Amiga formatted drive.  All I had to do was Run WinUAE, Go to the 'Hard Drives" tab, Click on the 'Add Harddrives' button, a window will come up, click the dropdown list button (little triangle pointing down) and my Amiga hard drive was listed there.  I selected that drive and then put a check mark in the 'Read/Write' box so I could write to my hard drive as well as read and clicked OK.

Hope that helps.

I believe with Amithlon, you only need to hook up the Amiga HD, pop in the CD and away you go?

With Amithalon I had trouble even booting. I believe the cdrom boot priority gets confused with the scsi boot process. After ctrl alt del a few times it did boot
but no drive showed up. Mabey ill try amigaxl, it runs on qnx which i think is linux based. I thought i heard linux had rdb support. :-) Thanks guys ill keep trying.

The Amiga drive didn't show up on Windows.  There was no drive letter assigned.  It was invisible to the system.  WinUAE was the only thing that showed it was hooked up.

With Amithlon, I just booted from the CD and then it booted into Workbench straight off the HD.  No problems at all.

Is the drive you're using already Amiga formatted?

P.S.  I have tried WinUAE and Amithlon with both the standard FFS as well as with SFS (Smart file system) with great success.  SFS rocks though!

Yes the drive is amiga formated and boots 1.3 in an amiga. Im using an old adaptec isa slot scsi interface
on the pc side. Mabey none of the emulaters like my scsi card. Im thinking of getting a pci scsi interface for the pc and giving that a try. I dont know if you can get a pci that suports old 50 pin scsi.
