after reading about this, why hasnt anyone done a version for the 1200/4000, t make thim into 4000t's or something like a boxer type thing?

just wondering, i mean i know its not economical, but otherwise, is it possible?


hell even an expansion slot for a pci with a 1200 on it, would do me, i mean uae with native chips? - think inverse pc bridgeboard for the 2000.

i mean, thik about this for a second. how many people use PC's? sell them a hardware emulator. with an accessable amiga floppy, and they can help pay for our eventual takeover of the pc market via the amigaone

The days of the classic Amiga are gone. They do have boards that will let you make a 1200 more like a 4000T. Its called the Mediator and can be found at www.elbox.com. They made a card for PCI at one time but it never got finished. They also made a small 1200 clone called the Access that went into a drive bay. Not to many were made but you can find them pop up for sale from time to time.

First you'd have to remove the chips from the A1200 Motherboard... which would be a pretty horrific task as they are not socketed like they work in the A1000.

IIRC the InsideOut board was halted due to lack of chips.

Can´t chips be cloned or redesigned to make them smaller and cheaper The Big Book talks about a 3rd party clone on a single chip, so cloning doesn´t seem to be a major problem !!

i know about the mediator. but i meant instead of the whole messing around with sticking an a1200 in a tower kinda thing, make an atx 1200 with pci slots, i mean we have had mediator-esque things since about 97/98 when i last used amiga

why not move atx?


and i know the chips are soldered to the board, i've messed around with 1200's since about '93 (when i was 11)but taking them off cant be that hard.....

But getting them off intact and working, is.... Desoldering SMT PLCC stuff is tricky business.

you dont strictly need to de-solder thm, they're glued on, and if you just cut away at the motherboard, you'd be able to get the away easily

also if you use sockets on this new mobo, you'd just be able to slot them in, as all the other stuff sould already be built in......pci slots / power flier, scan doubler etc

i mean you have the mobo design, and all the hacks already available, its not like you're really designing sometihng new, just putting the, all together, and spacing out the board a little, the curcuit diagram sint really going to change much

No they are not glued on, its solder and they need to be removed using a head gun. Gutting the board away would still leave the solder points under the chip attached.
