best games for amiga 1200 ?
« on: January 16, 2011, 08:42:31 PM »
Dear Friends:

So far I've been using my amiga 1200 only for productivity.
Like aladdin 4d, Dpaint and AmosPro.
After watching the intro for Hybris on youtube, I decided I
would love to start getting games for my amiga 1200.
Can you recommend the best games for amiga 1200 ?
I know hybris is only for amiga 500, but I am sure there
are many good games for a1200.
I got a little money to blow...So I can afford to get a few
amiga 1200 games.
Thank you !!!

Are you looking for A1200 specific (AGA) titles or games that will run on a 1200, even if they aren't specifically AGA ?

edit: Any particular types of games? Shooters, platformers, rpgs, strategy, sim's, adventure, puzzle, FPS, racing, sports... :)

Hi:

The games do not have to be AGA..but if an AGA game is good that is enough.
I love most any kind of game..so it does not have to be specific genre.
I prob would love most kind of games.
Just tell me which ones you like the most...I will prob like.
Thank you !!

If you like worms-style artillary war games in Amos, try Frontal Assault.

If you've got lots of time to download, lots of memory in your A1200 and like strategy games, try Total Chaos AGA.

Various games I've enjoyed: (some classics, some more obscure)

Turrican (1-3, though 2 is the best). Platformer, metroid style
Alien Breed (pretty much all of them. Start with the 92 special edition)
Alien Breed 3D (FPS)
Gloom (FPS)
Superfrog (platformer)
Battle Isle / Historyline (turn based strategy)
UFO enemy unknown (pretty much the best strategy game ever)
Civilization AGA (strategy)
Hired Guns (action RPG first person thingie, amazing once you figure it out)
Super cars 2 (racing game, two player)
Jaguar XJ220, Lotus 2 (more racing games)
Sensible world of soccer (soccer :) )
Speedball 2 (violent sports game)
Warlords (turn based fantasy wargame)
Banshee (AGA, pretty much the best shoot em up ever IMO)
Lemmings 2 (puzzle game)
Beneath a steel sky (adventure game)
Eye of the beholder 1-2 (D&D rpg)
Heimdall 2 (isometric rpg)

Theres a few to get you started :)

These are all games that run on my 1200 without relokick or anything else (though Jaguar you gotta get a cracked version for this). A few of them have HD install options but there's always WHDload I guess

Dune 2 is the first realtime strategy game ever.  I didn't see realtime strategy games on Runequester's list.

good catch. Im more of a turn based guy, but Dune 2 is great.
The original Dune is a really fun strategy / adventure game hybrid. Gotta boot up in ECS mode though if you install it.

Dear Friends:

I have good news.
If I save my money I could get an amiga 500 to play old games.
But I just realized I have no more room in my home for another amiga.
I can still save the money !!!
The money I save off a new system..I can spend all to get many games for my a1200 !!!
I can save enough to buy a big collection of amiga 1200 games !!!
Isn't this great ?
Thank you all !!!

Awesome :)

There's a few games that won't run on a 1200, but the vast majority works just fine, and there's some cool AGA games and AGA versions.

Do you have a hard drive on your machine ?

No, that is not true.

There are several of them before Dune 2, such as Realms. Dune 2 is the first one to link the need for a particular ressource (the spice) to credits to build army or building. This is what people call real time strategy.
Realms was real time too, but army were bought with money from the taxes.

In no particular order these are some of the AGA games I've enjoyed:

Aladdin. Brian The Lion AGA, Super Stardust, Robocod AGA (very similar to ocs/ecs version, but slightly slicker and more colorful), James Pond3 (starts of slow and boring, but sticking with it soon pays off and there's a very good game hidden there), AlienBred3d, T-Zero, Napalm, Pinball Illusions, Slam Tilt, Capital Punishment.

I'm sure there's a couple of my favorites that I'm failing to remember right now, but what they are I cant recall.

Reading that list it appears a lot of platformers got AGA treatment. Cant say I'd noticed the sheer volume before though.

Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

Slam Tilt is a /great/ pinball game. Very nice music too.

@Rednova: Sounds like a great setup for the majority of games. Should run some of the FPS types pretty good too.

A few others:

Cannon Fodder and Syndicate (both are pseudo-tactical shoot em up type of games. Hard to explain)

Space Crusade (board game conversation, turn based space marine tactical game, but again, only seems to work with a cracked version)

Lethal Weapon (its kind of a plain platformer, but I enjoyed it a ton)

Shadow of the beast 3 (platform puzzler. Very hard but great atmosphere)

Walker (big robot thing blasting everything in your path)
