Silly idea, I know, but does anyone know if this is possible?
I'm not sure whether the 68040 emulation in WinUAE has a functional MMU, although SysInfo and other stuff claims it is there.

One could run Minux(?) on WinUAE… Or via PCtask emulator (AmigaOS platform).

Personally, I run Red Hat 8 and Mandrake 9 on VMWARE on MS Windows Server 2003...

No, the MMU isn't emulated, it reports that it's there as part of the 040 emulation, that's all, AFAIKR.

There is a port of uClinux floating around that doesn't require the MMU, and should work.

Here's the link to uClinux for Amiga, that I forgot to post above. It appears it's even partly developed in UAE.

uClinux for Amiga500/600/CDTV/etc seems interesting...

Kernels with MMU emulation will work ... but i don't think thats in the main tree , its not in my local copy of 2.5.68 thats for sure ;)

I can't see how a Linux could be interesting :-)
AmigaOS is far better... Ok, it lacks multi-user support. I hope it will be added soon....

@Elwood

Having AmigaOS multi-user defeats the point in my opinion. Where goes fast bootup (and powerdown) if you have to logon (and logoff)? That's just one little thing but the easiest to perceive.

Sadly, no - minix will sort of run, but has a tendancy to bomb out and trash my boot partition, and none of the others will run without a proper MMU - looks like I'll have to try it on the host PC.

If you want to run a sandboxed Linux, then I'd suggest using something like Bochs, which works for me.  Is there any reason (apart from the sheer fun and curiosity which I can definitely understand :-) ) why you want to use UAE?

Still dosent hurt if that feauture was there.. They could include a function to turn it on/off.....

you can make linux login default user automaticly also...
