The Scoop: Examining the ACA500
« on: November 24, 2013, 12:10:36 AM »
News from retro

For the past two hectic months, I've been involved in part of the development and testing for this accelerator for the Amiga 500 and 500+. Since the product is solid and nearing release and Individual Computers has given me the go-ahead to talk about it, I will list the already known features and a few that have been added - and generally, what it's like to use. I will try to gather questions about features I've not covered, and update this article to be as complete as possible. You can also email them to "contact at scoopex1988 org". I will also try to answer questions about special uses or combinations in a follow-up article.

Read more below.

Meh. Nice, but I wish they would've produced a faster internal accelerator, instead. But I think that thread's already been beaten to death. :smack:

Very cool.... gonna make for one HUGE A500 also!

Next thing we'll prolly see is tower solutions for the 500. I'd think anyhow.
Imagine that big sucker laying on your desktop plugged into the 500? :)

All "NEW" devices for any amiga re good, but I'd really love to see more 68060 stuff for amigas and internal for the wedge amigas please.

Back in the day I had an a500 and I hated the "sidecars".

I agree with you haywire except for the GVP A500 HD+ and GVP A530.

As far as the ACA500, I am definitely interested in one.

I managed to get an A500 a few months ago and was a little disappointed with the lack of expansion options out there for it so I will be interested in getting on of these for it. The A500 already has an IDE controller in it but it is old and slow (but still better than disk ony) but the disk itself is dieing so the CF Disk option is nice. The A500 I got also already has 8Mb of RAM (1Mb as Chip) so I would be interested in seeing if the RAM on the ACA500 will cause problems with this.

Also, the chance to get the A500 on my LAN is good. The only other option I could see was finding my old PLIP cable I made years ago. Will make getting new software onto the A500 a hell of a lot easier.

I might get one of these when im done with my A1200 and A600 projects, Tho I would probably try to make a sidecar case for it fitting the card.

Alas, the trap door slot of the A500 is fairly limited, and the other alternative would be to occupy the CPU slot - I think the left-side slot is the best alternative.

Now, I just need to punch my little brother until he returns the A500 I gave him back in '97. ;)

I see Igor started working on FPGA accelerator for the A500, Vampire 500. I got my Vampire 600 today so might just buy the Vampire 500 first to give it a go :)
