« on: November 09, 2002, 07:59:26 PM »
Help please I have an A-1200 in an elbox tower case and when my cd drive is reading its IDE. The machine seems to be re-booting on its own. Very intermittent. Any suggestions?

More info needed!  CD Interface?  CD Software? 1200 Workbench and
ROMs, patches.  Has the problem always been there or just new.  How
often does the machine crash when reading the cd?  Is the 1200
otherwise stable?  Any other info?

Very intermittent fault?  Check all your cabling!

Try to wiggle the cd ide and power cable to see if you can force a
reboot.  I had some strange random crashes and it was the 4 way power
connector adaptor that fed all my SCSI devices.

The cd drive is IDE. It is connected Via a Eyetech A1200 CD Plus Card. The machine is otherwise stable. OS 3.9 Power tower case Seems to always happen when reading the CD. The Cd rom drive is an Acer i think.

Sounds to me like your CD-ROM is stealing or corrupting the power supply to your Amiga motherboard, causing it to crash. It might not be, of course. Check all connections are firmly in anyway.

All the connections are OK Should I try connecting to a separate Power supply? I Figured the one in the power tower would be OK tu run everything. I do have a Mediator card.

I did try a separate Power supply and it seems OK Now. I'll have to figure a way to get the box closed though.
