SDRAM prices increasing!
« on: November 08, 2002, 09:07:29 PM »
I just went by the webshop were I usually buy generic hardware, and noticed that the price of the SDRAM chips I had in mind has just gone up 6%. SDRAM is becoming non-standard these days, so I'm thinking the prices might not go down again. Should I buy now?

Ok, thanks. On a positive note, I went to a rival webshop (one which doesn't work with IBrowse) on my neighbors PC, and fount that they had the same amount of the same kind ram, albeit a different brand (Apacer as opposed to Crucial), for 28% less. I guess I'll be buying that a little later tonight, unless someone convince me otherwise.

Only one thing about the Apacer memory which is a little bit worrying: It's priced at 666 NOK. :evil:

It is a good time to buy PC133 right now. If you wait it is about to become obsolete and that would mean paying higher prices or buyin "pulls" from some surplus place. I wouldn't buy any more than you want for you A1. I am curious to see what the sweet spot is for the A1. I'll bet it is less than the 512MB of DDR I had to put into my Athlon. :-)

Gotcha. What I am planning to buy is two 512MB ECC/REG modules. That's 1 GB of memory, all for the bargain price (at least in Norway) of 1332NOK (approx. $185). :-)

@Strobe:
Yeah, I know, memory keeps dropping in price, but that's only as long as it's mainstream. SDRAM is on it's way out, so I expect the price will increase, as it did with EDO. The question is when...
