Non booting a500
« on: March 29, 2010, 08:05:43 AM »
i have an a500 with the 2.0 rom chip upgrade from 1.3 with a great valley products scsi plug in hard drive with 9 megs of ram and the 512k expansion in the bottom slot. im running an apple cd rom drive off of the plug in hard drive scsi interface card. i have a software-hardware device plugged into the parallell port for ntsc video and artwork program made by DCTV. when i go to boot the computer it asks for i guess the systems disk but does not boot. is this the problem or is it asking for the harddrive install system disk. i have all the installer software for everything, but no go.

When you turn on the system and it asks for the system disk, i am assuming you are talking about the purple screen of kickstart 2.x right?

Will it boot normal disks from there?

You might unhook all the extras, and then try starting with a known working autobooting game disk, then add things in each time you power down. A beefier than normal power supply would be good luck too! Did you just buy this, or unbox it from ages past :)

That is the best advice especially given that you have quite a few expansions.

Also check your 512K expansion for any leaking battery and corrosion around the battery which is one of the major killers of most expansion cards and Amiga's which contain an RTC.

You said it is an A500 right? If it is an A500 there will not be any batteries attached to the actuall motherboard but if it is a 500 Plus model you will need to open it up right away and check the motherboard.
