The Another World sequel... yes it exists!
« on: March 17, 2003, 07:32:47 PM »
Yesterday I've finished (with great pleasure) Out of this World on an old Macintosh. You already know, it's the extended version of Another World, with some new rooms added. I always wanted to see its sequel, Another Earth, which is mentioned in the ending sequence. I thought it was never produced, but today I've found it, with much surprise.

It's called "Heart of the Alien" and it was released only on the Sega CD, the cd add-on for Megadrive/Genesis. The story picks up immediately after the end of the first game, with Lester and the alien flying on ther pterodactyl. I've found a link with some interesting screenshots. I wonder if there's any Megadrive emulator for PPC Amigas that supports Sega CD's games. :-?

Anyway, I'm really happy I've found this dreamt sequel :-)

Flashback is based on same type of gameplay, but has a completely different storyline. Whether that counts as being a sequel is up for debate, I guess. The same cannot be said about Heart of the Alien, since that picks up where Another World left off, in the same story...

I thought "Out of this World" was just the US name?

Anyhow Out of this world and Flashback were both excelent games when they came out and they hold up pretty good even today.

Well, OK it's the same company, and almost the same team, but at that time Eric Chahi, the man behind Another World (and the previous point&click whose name I forgot) Left. He did not work on FlashBack.

Witch happens to be, yes, a great game.

He re-appeared on "Heart of Darkness" (PS & poor PC port), that every 2D adventure lover should check out.

So, what about "Heart of the Alien: Out of this World parts I and II" ?? I *want* to see it ! Does "sega CD" mean Dreamcast ? I sure hope so

His first game was Future Wars, another classic. If I remember correctly, Flashback was born first as a Megadrive game, then it was converted to the Amiga.

If you carefully read my first post you'll find out what's a Sega CD ;-)

No actually it most certainly was named "Out of This World" in the USA. My friend's computer store sold the retail game when it came out and I played it. I remember reading back then the Euro version was named different.

Hmm, it could mean that there are two different versions of the game for Amiga.
Do you remember if it has those levels missing in the european version? For example, in the second level, when going down with the lift until the last floor, is there an alien guarding a switch? I'm just curious :-)

...I found out that the next movie (not the one in production) is being based on a video game? But i dont think its The Thing 2, a game called "Another World"?. The script was sent to JCs agent at William Morris Agency in Beverly Hills, and given the green light. I dont have any more info on it. I have not heard of this game....

I wonder what rock he's been living under.
