(Need) Dead SID chips
« on: August 16, 2004, 02:04:29 PM »
Does any one have any dead SID chips, preferably the older kind, they want to get rid of?

Hum,
is it something like these?
see?

You should be able to use either an 8580 SID chip or a 6581 SID chip.

Okay. I think I saw a quote by Jens Schoenfeld where he claimed to sit on a large stock of SID chips. Maybe he's willing to share some?

If they are working, I can destroy them for you :hammer:

Hahahaha, well, I want to build a static/display model, since the it would not be used, I would prefer to get a dead chip which some one is going to throw away rather than have a live working chip doing nothing.

I indeed have a large stock of SID chips, and since I have tested all of them, I also have a (not so) large stock of non-working chips. I did not really sort them the way the hardSID guys did, so some in my "dead" pile might have one or two working voices, but I'd be willing to part with them. Just tell me which side you want to display, and I'll mark the other, so nobody will ever try to use them as SIDs any more.

Now before everyone comes running to me wanting to buy whatever chips: SIDs only go together with Catweasels (so currently they won't sell at all, got to wait for the release of the MK4).

Dead SIDs will go for a symbolic value to anyone with no restrictions, let's say 1,- EUR per tube plus actual shipment.

How about a little note on the thing you want to make:

"No live SIDs were harmed in the making of this artwork"

;-)

I have 4 broken C64 mobos in my basement, for which I didn't find any use for the past 15 years, but now I remind to throw them away.

Dude! don't throw them away, strip them for parts, if any of the chips still work you should get quite a bit of cash for them, especailly working SID chips... and even dead SID chips if you sell to the right A.orger :-D
