A way around the Next Gen trolling/fighting?
« on: February 04, 2004, 08:09:12 PM »
Just looking back at the thread that sparked all the recent discontent re: Peg vs AOne.

How about having a well balanced document they can be referred to?
(well balanced is possible, I've seen people take lots of effort of writing responses to the 'Which one should I get?' threads)

Then, if a genuine returning user asks this question. someone can refer them to the document. If its someone trolling, well they can also be referred to the document and their trolling has been futile.

I personally don't know enough about the two platforms (three including AROS!) to write such a document, but I'm sure it can be done!

Why not a MorphOS forum category? So that people that have interest in that platform/os can have their discussions/topics in peace

Theres been lots of talk about divided community. Separate forums would make it even more divided.. maybe?
I am a bit skeptic about separating forums.. could lower the quality of discussion in both forums if people just stay at "their own side of the fence".

I agree. I really like the unity found at Amiga.org.

Err, yes
 :rtfm:

Saying that, don't you think someone who's been out of the scene a long time might want some kind of guidance, rather than just hard facts?

Not at all really.  In our position, it's not really our job to "guide" people in one way or another.  It's our job -- as a resource site -- to point the way so that people can investigate and learn on their own, without our interference.  It is simply too easy for any of us to try and inflect our own opinions and history into it.  That being said, we SHOULD strive to answer direct questions as helpfully as we can to any newcomers who appear, but to actually START the thread only invites the normal discontent and inbreeding -- erm, I mean infighting -- amongst the children.

My honest answer?  Buy whatever you can justify and meets your specific needs.  I don't care who makes it, what "side" they're on, or anything else.  It's not my job to be otherwise.

Just a thought.

I would agree that drawing lines would further divide the community.  This is the best Amiga site, and I would hate to see it divide into camps.  I've only just recently gotten back into Amiga, and I must admit I'm very shocked by the division in the ranks.  I'm adjusting.

 :griping:

My two bits:

None of the current (New) Amiga's, want-a-be's, prototypes or what ever you want to call them are ready for prime time.

AmigaOne has no Amiga style OS.

Pegasos has Morph "but" - its not ripe yet.

Before turning on the flame, remember, opinions are a three edged sword - Positive, Negative and Mine which is always the right one . . . .

Well as far as I see it, MOS is out and the supporters have all the right to brag about there systems and its OS. Those of us that want to see OS4 have nothing to shoot back with. Its all fun as long as people dont take it to serious. When OS4 comes out and is doing its thing I am sure the MOS guys wont have much more to say. Lets just keep it clean. Thats all we need to remember.
