Amiga 600 Kickstart 3.1.4 and a6095 issues.
« on: January 31, 2020, 07:38:24 PM »
Hi all.
I have a problem with my Amiga600. The configuration is as following.

Indivision 604n chipram
IndivisionECS-V2 Scandoubler
Kickstart 3.1.4
a6095 memory module

If I run it with Kickstart 3.1.4 then the machine gives yellow screen and randomly red when I power it on.
If I run it with Kickstart 2.0 (37.300), then the machine boots fine and Systest finds no memory error at all.

So the question is, why exactly does it have this issue with Kickstart 3.1.4?

Did it run with 3.1.4 at all before?

Where did you source the 3.1.4 ROM from? Is it known good? Did you place it properly in the socket?

Maybe 3.1.4 does more severe h/w checks at startup. You might want to to remove and re-seat the memory expansion, and clean the connector inbetween.

Yup. It have been running a couple of times, yet it have always been running extremely hot, so the issue appeared when I wanted to boot it after it have been sitting unused since october last year. (or something around that time period)

I bought the 3.1.4 because the Cloanto branded 3.1 rom was incompatible with my system. (perhaps this gives a hint to were the issue is)

I bought the 3.1.4 set from that company in Ireland called Sordan. I have not had any issues to this date, other than the a6095 have stopped working in my setup (If running with the 3.1.4 that is).

Already done that when I experienced the issue. Both CPU on the motherboard and the memory module have been cleaned extremely well with IPA and cotton tips (cue tips). I think the module is working as such, because the mem-test in Systest have been running 2 or 3 complete cycles on the three tests that are (Chip, Fast and Slow) plus yet another couple of cycles with the complete range of mem on one test.

So, do you have a kickswitch or do you swap the ROMs manually?
I mean, maybe you have issues with the 3.1.4, then you can switch off-switch over to 2.x-restart the machine and if in this immediate change the problems persists it is not the ROM.
Just an idea...

If the ROM chip gets hot, it might be the wrong EPROM type with 'hanging' or otherwise wrong adressed pins.

I swap the roms manually... I might not have been clear on what is getting hot.
It is the memory module that is getting hot. I have yet to do extensive heat test it with the 2.0 Kickstart ROM-Chip.

If it is not working at all with the 3.1.4, then my best guess is: broken ROM or wrongly inserted or contact problems.

I have just copy pasted the following:

Quote
Yellow - The CPU encountered an error before the system's error-trapping code (the code the calls up the Guru) was in place.

This seems like a Kickstart error indeed. As previously described, I get yellow screen. A really few times I get red screen.

Is the A6095 configured to 1.5, 5.5 och 9.5 MB?
