I just would like to inform you that it's now possible to play Multiplayer Amiga games Online with a PC!
To improve this project, we need more players, more games testers, and motivated members!

This free software is able to establish a link between your computer and AmigaOnline private network.
Of course it's possible to play via public servers if you don't want to install Hamachi Software.
The technology used here is able to make you play with many internet users some excellent Amiga games that should be known by everyone. :)

Note 1: The AmigaOnline Hamachi network is now mainly used by motivated members to test more Amiga games online and to improve the AmigaOnline project. New revolutionary concept: AmigaOnline invents Shared Play! You can now play any solo Amiga game online!
The idea is to be able to play online all solo Amiga games in a cooperative/shared environnement.
Players all around the world may now be able to play the same solo game. For example each player could play during one life or one mission in the game, and then will be replaced by another player connected to the internet.
Many players may watch the same game session, and play when they want to!
This concept will allow any solo game to be theoretically playable online!!
Shared Play Games will be playable very soon exclusively on AmigaOnline network. Try them! :rtfm:

Just a final word to say that new AmigaOnline Forum Members may be temporarely moved to a waiting zone, before joining Hamachi network.
The best way to avoid waiting is to:
-Introduce yourself on AmigaOnline Forum
-Inform me that you want to join Hamachi network (via Mail/Forum/MP)
Inactive accounts/members may be moved to the temporary waiting zone.
Registered AmigaOnline Forum Members who want to play online or to improve the project will always have priority to access the network! ;)

And Hamachi because it may be used easily by everyone using a PC (beginners & skilled). Kaillera servers may be used too instead of Hamachi.

I've been visiting the project's site and reading the tutorials, but I didn't find it very clear respective to what software is needed to get playing a game, besides the VPN client.

I saw snapshots of WinUAEXP. Is this needed or a regular WinUAE will do? Were can it be found ? Seaching on google lead to an offline link at a thread:

Thanks for your reply. AmigaOnline solution is based on a WinUAE-Kaillera (a customised version of WinUAE). It works very well, and the best way to test it is to give it a try :)
Reading the tutorial is a really good choice to really understand what you will need to do after joining AmigaOnline network!

Yes, but you don't need to download anything before joining. You just need to connect to the network, and then you'll be able to play with ready to use and preconfigured versions of WinUAE ;)

Most of the games are now classified as abandonware, and some others as freewares. Players must have their own Kickstart file to be able to play ;) Any packages on the site will be removed from the site at the request of the current copyright owners, should they wish to directly deny distribution. ;)

Legally there's no such thing as abandonware. If you're distributing these games you're performing piracy. The least you do is to harm 3rd party sales of the originals. It would also make it much harder for any legal player to enter the field and offer similar service.

You may play such tricks if you want, but it doesn't make it any more legal.

The only way to make legal would be that the players themselves provide the games they play, or that you obtain license to distribute the games.

That all being said, it's your decision really. I don't like what you're doing, but there's nothing I can do.. except voice my concerns. Amiga.org policy allows piracy these days, as well.

Piru is right regarding the laws of copyright.

However i suspect most of these companies would not care in 2010 if someone had an adf of that game or not.They have long ago abandoned the amiga scene.Now that does not make it legal(this is intelectual property we are talking about and the laws are very specific).But certainly i see low risk for legal actions against those that host these files.

You know something?If this thread or some other becomes the reason those companies go to courts to defend their rights then let it be!We should then know that these companies still appreciate the amiga scene and maybe after the court we can convince them to offer us upgrades or some sort of patches.(i know it sounds silly,it is a joke).

On the other hand if you want to be certain that there would be no problems then you could contact the original copyright holders (-that is if you can and if they do not delete your email like it is spam-)

Great News! AmigaOnline now works using Macintosh computers too! (tested using Parallels software)
So, if you are a Mac user, it's now possible to play Amiga games online :kitty:

NEW!: Thanks to the AmigaOnline Players List, you may now find Amiga players very quickly & easily! Add your favorite Amiga games to this list during your introduction. The most appreciated Amiga games will be tested online as a priority :)
Choose your opponents and decide exactly when you want to play online! If you wish to play some specific Amiga games occasionally, choose a Public Kaillera Server or create your own temporary Hamachi network!
The official AmigaOnline Hamachi network is now mainly used by motivated members to test more Amiga games online and to improve the AmigaOnline project ;)
