Settlers II for Macintosh; is it still available somewhere?
« on: April 24, 2006, 05:20:46 PM »
Now that I have fixed my problems with ShapeShifter I'm very impressed with it.

I'm already enjoying Warcraft 2 on it and I have tried the Settlers 2 demo.

Is there still a place where you can buy a copy of Settlers 2 for Mac or is there anyone here that has a copy?

Just get DOSBOX and use the x86 version.

I'm interested to hear you talk about emulating Mac games on an Amiga. I used to use Fusion, but have not currently got a Mac emulator installed, although I created a partition specially for it. I will have to address this.

Am I right in thinking it is your 060 driving Shapeshifter and the apps, or does it utilise your PPC card?

Any other Mac games in particular that you think are especially worthwhile? I'd certainly like to have Settlers II running espcially after Bluebyte stitched Titan (and us) up a few years back.  :(

Cheers.

Yup - it's the 060 driving Shapeshifter, and it's quite impressive when it's set up well with a graphics card. I managed to find Settlers II on the internet one time, but that has to be 3 or 4 years ago - no idea of where at all. I never got it to work on my setup though, it would go through the starting part, then I'd get a black screen and the music, but no response - I'd have to reset the emulator. Never figured out what it was in the end, and just gave up and played it on my PowerMac :-) I'm sure it would run sweetly if you could get it to work however!

Basilisk runs really well on my Amithlon setup. It's pretty fast. I just don't have a lot of mac software. I'd eventually like to find a copy of 8.1. It crashes every so often, but I can play starcraft, which is pretty kewl.

Yep, I'm running ShapeShifter on my 060. It's really nice with my Picasso IV. I run System 7.5.5 with it and that's really stable. I tried Fusion and Basilisk too but they are not that stable on my system. Fusion also has trouble with my cd-rom but the resolution swithing within the emulation is really cool. I also tried MacOS 8 and 8.1 but I for me 7.5.5 works best.

Anyway I use it to play around with games that sadly never made it to the Amiga or are better on Mac. So far I played Syndicate (high res and 256 colours and more sounds), Simcity2000, Warcraft 2 and Settlers 2 demo. They run fine.

About Starcraft; isn't that game only for PowerPC Macs?

I have recently seen The Settlers IV (PC) for sale in a shop (new) for $10.  Don't know if this would interest you.  Here's a link.

edit- It's an Australian store, but you should be able to find that product elsewhere.
Good good study, day day up!

I already own S3 and S4 for PC. I like to play S2 on my Amiga because... well it's just cool!

I like the real thing; that's why I enjoy my A4000 more than WinUAE.
