Title: Best (rare) Amiga games ever
Post by: orange on September 30, 2004, 01:04:52 PM
Lets talk about good stuff, I'm tired of those "worst" threads.

I guess we all know what are the best Amiga games of all times , but it would be nice to tell which games are really good AND RARE (were never very popular).

For eg. "Bumpy" is superb, IMHO.

 :-)

hehe.. that would be "Turbo Raketie" <-- not sure on how you spell it, it was a game from Finland :-)

A nice two player game, where you controlled an "always falling" rocket (read: triangled object). with had some weapons used to shoot down the enemy :-) As you might imagine it had very poor graphics but the gameplay was 110%

The correct spelling is "Turboraketti". Check out the official homepage (http://www.helsinki.fi/~lakahone/tr/index_e.html) for Turboraketti II :-D

Greetings,

I don't seem to find it anymore.
>Super Space Invaders!
and
>Arkanoid
>Archon 1 (my first game, may not be rare but I don't find that here anymore)
>PacMan Deluxe (a rare built game, just love them)
>Blitz Bombers (one of my perfect rare games IMO)

No 'Worst' thread bring me down! :-D

Reagards,

Putty Squad ! This game is so rare, NO ONE HAS IT ! Well, at least not that I know of. If someone DOES have the full game of this, it HAS to be released on the internet, for every Amiga user in the world to enjoy. A lot of us played the demo, which was quite a few levels, and surely everyone loved it. There's even a WHDLoad Installer for the demo !The gameplay was awesome, the graphics were spectacular, and the music and sound were spot-on. Why was this game never fully released ? The magazines must have got a full version of the game because they all reviewed it, and the screenshots they used weren't from the demo.

Maybe we should try and get the full game released. Does anyone know how to contact the authors or the guys who worked on the magazines when it was reviewed ?

If you want rare AND good then top contender has to be Moonstone (A Hard Day's Knight) - that commands up to £75 on eBay these days and from what I recall is a very fine game too! Certainly I thought the demo was cool at the time!

Wayne Gretzky Hockey 2 (from Bethesda) was a damn fine game and wasn't really mainstream (at least not in not hockey playing nations). You were able to get a massively tactical game going, that the EA Sports NHL-series never has gotten close to. EA Sports games are mostly hit and run-type, while in Gretzky you could for instance get a good powerplay going.  :-)

There's this game I used to play a lot on a friend's Amiga wich seems to be quite rare these days. It's name was Blade Warrior, and although it wasn't as sophisticated as Shadow of the Beast and the likes, I found it very enjoyable. Basically, you were a wandering swordsman/magician travelling through a world entirely portrayed in silhouette. There were some nice touches, such as the spell construction system and the ability to travel not only of foot, but by dragon as well. I believe it was written by Jason Kingsley from Imageworks.

@Arthur
Yeah, Blade Warrior was a nice game.  :-)

I just remembered the Team 17 budget release Arcade Pool. Me and a friend palyed Speed Pool every day for a whole summer. I booted it up a month ago only to find that he had an almost insane record on the high score list.  :-x

Lets see...

- There's the follow up to Vroom, F1 from Domark. Very fast, very intense.
- Fury of the Furries. You had to give this one time & when you did you found that EVERY SINGLE level was different. You don't get that very often.
- Kid Chaos from Gremlin. Sonic meets a cave man. Originally called Kid Vicious, which I though was a better name.
- Out to Lunch. Top quality platformer that was most known on the SNES.
- Push Over. I don't know how popular this was but I found it hard to find when I was after it. I'd like to see something like this done again.
- Vital Light. Well polished puuzzler with colours.
- Virocop. Silky smooth Shoot-em-up action.
- Yo Joe! This was so good but I only played the demo.

That's my commercial selection straight from the disk box... Onto PD, Shareware & demos (From memory)...

- Already mentioned. Putty Squad. I NEED THIS GAME!
- G2. Unreleased game from Psygnosis. AF had a demo.
- Ork Attack. Dropping rocks on Orks has never been so much fun.
- Odyssey. "Swish-em-up" where you could change form into different animals. Never found this one (Demo'd on AF 75b(
- Links Golf (US Gold) extra courses. I never found them but would like to.
- Super TwinTris. I had this on a cover disk but haven't now & cannot find it anywhere. It simply played really smooth.
- Wheelchair Gladiators. There was something appealing about this one but I'm not sure what.

FuZion.

Did anyone ever play the Amiga version of Stormlord?  That was one of my favourites, and I got it for $20, back in probably 1992 or so...  it had juicy graphics (looks good even today), great sounds and superb music... even the gameplay was good  :-D

Putty squad was apparently never released for amiga  :-( .

Some magazines had reviews of the full version, but they probably just played the ms-dos version.

I had the ms-dos version once, but the disks died.

Does anyone remember Carrier Command? I'm not sure I've seen many games that have been done well like it since. It always struck me that it'd be a great game to play over a link either against someone or working as a team.

If the name doesn't ring a bell, have a look at:

okay, sorry for probably stepping on lots of peoples toes here but can someone explain to me what is so good about Shadow of the Beast? Personally I think it's a crap game, very very boring.

You just run, press the button to kill a monster, run, press button, run, press button. You can climb for ages down a ladder into a well and when at the bottom not get of the ladder?!?

It has really nice gfx for it's time but that doesn't make it a good game to me.

*edit*
removed some stuff which had nothing to do with the thread :D

There's nothing "good" about it now... but cast you mind back to 1989 when the best game I had played was a black and white text adventure on my ZX81...

Ruff n' Tumble
Turrican3

pps: nobody know's game something like ZX Spectrum's The Astromarine Corps?

Carrier Command... Wonderful game and one of the few I actualy beat.

Shadow of the Beat was a good (ie not great) game. Beautiful graphics and some awsome music. I would also suggest Lysander by Reflections.

A couple of other votes for best are Starglider 2, Flood, The Fairy Tale Adventure.

For me?

Trex Warrior.  Man what a game!  I beat the hell out of my A1200 playing that one.  And the f'ing thing wouldn't show me the outro animation or screen text after I'd won.  I beat the final warrior and the game would just go to a black screen. :(

The day I bought my Amiga 500 I also purchased two games: Space Ace and Shadow of the Beast.  Space Ace was cool especially for someone just coming off the C=64 (the first 3.5" disks I'd ever seen), but Shadow of the Beast made me fall out of my chair.  I immediately knew right then and there that my Amiga would need to be connected to my stereo from that point.  I had never heard any game sound that cool.

I think one of the games that I played a lot was Pool of Radiance from TSR (i.e. Dungeons & Dragons).  One of my favorite games of all time.

I'm kinda with fx & Cu AMiGA with the Shadow of the Beast thing.

Even when I first saw & played it, I remember thinking that the gfx were brilliant, the sfx blew me away but it just didn't feel too great to play. It wasn't until I saw, heard & played F/A-18 Interceptor that I fell for the Amiga.

Gosh, if I'd known it was rare I would have ISO'd it before including it in this bundle I sold on eBay a long time ago. (Was a complete new CD32 system too). Notice it in the lower left corner...

I also got "rooked" when I sold this bundle. I replaced the guy's CD32 a month later because his quit working with the agreement that he'd mail me back the dead one (I had a spare CD32 drive I could have replaced it with). Asshat would never respond to my emails after he received the 2nd unit. Some people are dirt.

I agree, Shadow of the Beast blew. All it was good for was sitting on the shelf as a demo in the store to blow away all the poor PC users at the time with it's stunning graphcs and amazing music -- but the gameplay stunk.

If you wanted to play great Amiga games you started off with Dungeon Master, then played Settlers, then moved on to TV Sports Basketball (probably the best Basketball game ever), then played Wayne Gretzky's Hockey (simply amazing), then you dabbled with a little Empire, and topped off the week with some good old turn based warfare with The Perfect General (another brilliant game). Turrican and Turrican 2 were also both fun and had the best Amiga music ever.

But Shadow of the Beast? Bad game, BAD! :)

Mine was:

  1- Darkside
  2- Mirror Magic
  3- Rick Dangerous
  4- Sorcery Plus

I started writing this thinking there was a 5th game on the
disk, but I can't remember now what it was, if there was one...  They were all pretty good games though, although it was a couple of years before I happened to run disksalv 1.x(!) on the disk and Darkside suddenly started working  :-D

Hi!

* Carrier Command: lot of fun.
* AMC (Astro Marine Corp): let´s get hard!
* The lost patrol: I like it´s atmosphere
* Rick Dangerous: simply and good, very good.
* TV Sports Basketball: hyper-customizable, very fun and plenty of good details (like the "sponsors´" advises :D)

And the very best:
* Agony: I love it!!!

for a short while, i was addicted to a game called "mouse trap", i don't think it was very popular. then again, i was really young. i'm only 18 [in 3 days], but i haven't seen anyone talk about it or seen it on any sites while i've been browsing amiga stuff.

hmm, it's been about 10 years since i've played amiga. i'm just now starting to get back into the swing of things.
