I guess Intel doesn't know how many chips it shipped because it uses ms's spreadsheet and Mercury Research is using Suns!!
Imagine, that many chips, and it had to compete with Amd, Cyrix, and others.
What's amazing is how long to the next bil. !!
It said 5 MHz, but was really 4.77 MHz. Close enough.
But I didn't know it was 16 bit. I thought the first one was the 80286. Maybe the 8088 was 8 bit?
They said the P4 was 600 times faster, which is a straight division of 3.06 GHz by 5 MHz = 612.
They didn't take into account 16 to 32 bit, or hyperthreading speed increases? Ram cache in the CPU either. Oh, wait, they mean strictly by Hertz. I'm surprised they didn't give a mips rating.
Anyway, there you have it.
I went there looking for the fastest available CPU. They seem to be stuck at 3.06 GHz. This bodes well for AmigaOne. If we get a hold of a 970 @1.8GHz, with our efficient OS, it should feel like using a rocket!!
Also, ram is going to make it harder and harder to use these higher GHz ratings. I think the CPU speeds are just about to level off, then advantage A1!!!!!
