Has A.org been taken over by Google?
« on: May 20, 2009, 10:22:48 PM »
Hi

After the redesign (great work Wayne  :drink:) I noticed a *beta under the logo/banner. This is the same as with most things Google. This got me thinking, has A.org been taken over by Google? Also will it ever get out of beta or be stuck there forever like Google Mail? :crazy:

Thanks
Robert

Robert,

I was grasping for a way to get the point across to people that Amiga.org was still being "re"-developed.  For what it's worth, it seems to have cut down on the complaints a bit.

We'll take it off when we're finished importing/converting all the old content and stuff.

Geez... i really don´t understand why people complain so much!

I´m very active on the Internet, in a daily basis. Have checked this (and others) site about 5 times per day, in the last 7 days. Every time i get back the site is different, I mean, more complete, new features, etc.

Can´t you guys have a little patience and wait a couple more weeks? I mean, maybe the entire site well take 6 months to pass the "beta" stage, but at the current pace, i´m sure it will feel pretty much complete ina couple weeks time..

Besides, we all should be really amazed and gratefull that Wayne take so much time in the last days to move the transition forward. By the way, thanks a lot, Wayne!

Maybe you guys (the ones that complain so much) finally found a new subject to talk about... :-S)

PS.: @toca180 i don´t mean to criticize you here. I understand you aren´t trolling here. Happens that i used your post to put my hate out. Sorry about That! ;-)

@Mugo

I don't think that the original post was a complaint about amiga.org. It is an unfortunate fact that the word "beta" appears to have been hijacked by marketers and redefined to mean "cutting edge." The basic idea is "if it's still in beta then it must be the new, and at the cutting edge of technological development." That's why some things are still "in beta," even after years of stable operation.

It makes sense to ask if this website's admins and developers mean "beta" in the traditional sense, or if "beta" is just a marketing ploy. I'm glad that Wayne's idea of beta matches mine.

@Wayne

Good idea. Makes sense as its constantly changing. Keep up the good work the site looks great.

@hans

Thats the way I interpreted beta on here too.

@thread

God no, it's not a complaint. I like the new site. More a dig at the fact that everything Google is in constant beta. I'm not bothered by it being there, just saw it and could not help but comment.

Thanks
Robert

@Hans

I understand your point, and agree with you. Although i never thought that Wayne would use the beta label to mean we are now a "vanguard" site. But still, the point really is valid.

That´s why i appologized in the PS.

@Robert

Hey, sorry again for hijacking your thread, to express my upset mood. I fell like i really hijacked your thread, because as i said, your message was not a complaint.

The problem i think was that, after reading so much threads complaining about the new look, without the site is complete, ready, out of beta stage, i felt like i had too much of all these criticisms.

I hope there´s no hard feeling between us!

Also, as English is not my native language (and i´m not exactly fluent in it lately), i may sound harsh here and there.

Best Regards to all of you guys.

@mugo

No hard feelings at all. We all gotta vent at some time. No worries about the hijack.

Long live A.org!
