Title: Looking for Games!!!
Post by: bbrv on February 25, 2003, 01:30:35 PM
Genesi has an immediate need for new and old games that have a small memory requirements and can either be stored in a STB or handheld device.  We will also be using the W@LK KEY (http://www.plexuscom.com/consumer-1.htm).  The W@LK KEY can be loaded with many games, traded between gamers, or given away with advertising related promotions.

If you have access to sources or want to develop or port old Amiga games to MorphOS do not miss the positive financial opportunity to do so.

Please direct all interest to Genesi at bbrv@genesi.lu

Best regards,

R&B  :-)

Hi there,

I'd like to draw your attention to a new game development company called DreamOn Studio.
We're 7 people, ex-Infogrames employees, with a good track record of released professional games.

Have a look on http://www.dreamon-studio.com (warning, the intro uses Flash)

Some people in DreamOn were or are still Amiga related : one of our coder, Laurent K. used to code demos on his A500-A1200, our main artist Philippe D. is the creator of Mr.Nutz and did the gfx work on Toki,  Ocean Beach Volley, Ivanhoe etc... all on Amiga ! And our musician is ... Allister Brimble !

We're ready to work with any publishers of content in the gaming industry and we have a strong experience in next gen and handheld production.

Let's talk about all this !

Bye,
Ben Yoris

Hi there...

I have plenty of old Amiga projects that could be transferred over - you may remember our old company Almathera - I'm now running a new company (Mysterious Ways (http://www.mways.co.uk)) and it'd be great to get back into Amiga work again.

Hi,

Even without programming skills, you could use tools such as Inga (http://www.inutilis.de/software/index.html) to develop educational or adventure-type applications and distribute it on the W@lk Key. Your titles could also run on Mac, Windows or Linux without change (but not as smoothly as on a MorphOS Pegasos, of course!  :-D   :-D  )

Why is it that for the first three responses this was their first posting on A.Org *plays X-Files tune* :-D.
Title: Re: Looking for GREAT Games!!!
Post by: bbrv on February 25, 2003, 04:07:54 PM
Well, that is GREAT!  (keep X-Files tune running....it may be their first, but not their last  ;-)  )

Jolyon, we would be very happy to pick up where we left off with you, Paul and Amathera.  As we recall you have rights and sources to a number of fun titles.  :-)

Ben, with the Infograme experiences the Dream On team could bring some current and useful knowledge of the broader Video Game market as it exists today to our efforts.  :-)

Thomas, e.p.i.c. has been the first company to release MorphOS game content and of course we will undoubtedly look to you to lead the third party development coordination if you are willing.  :-D

What is clear with the three of you located in the UK, France and Germany respectively is that we have three coordinators for the future of the platform.  And, with smart guys like Ron in Holland and that last idea above we can start to generate success one step at a time.  :-)

Game Developers and/or future Business Owners here is a message for you:

Think about a television producer that makes a television show -- that is you.  Genesi will be the "network" that then offers your "show" on the internet or to local "broadcasters" or Franchisees (operators).

Please have a look at the Capture the Frag Gaming Centre (http://www.capturethefrag.com).   FYI, the Business Plan and the local franchise for www.capturethefrag.com can be awarded to any qualified  Phoenix (http://www.phinixi.com/) member (send us an email!).  We are working on the "How to Do" book now.  Genesi will contribute to the financial development of the franchisees through low cost machines, software, free upgrades, etc.  In exchange, for equipment, upgrades, etc. the Franchisee will pay a license fee on profits -- and have a decent opportunity to make some money himself.

For our DTV STB project think bigger than a LAN -- we will have a "Capture the Frag" channel where many different types of games will be offered.

Once these games are tried and tested in Capture the Frag Centres or on the Capture the Frag Channel we will begin online leagues, etc.  Here you will be offered a percentage of the profits -- as Genesi syndicates your game.  We will manage and distribute your game with minimum yearly license fees to be paid to you.  Of course, you can sell your games through the normal distribution channels too.   :-)

We will be forming a Genesi Game Producer Committee  soon.  At the very least, we hope Ben, Jolyon, Ron and Thomas will serve on this Committee.  We will ask Thomas to serve as the Chairman!  Our first order of business will be to put togther the Game Developer Package with tools and a proper API for our upcoming requirements.

Look for details soon!  Please send us a statement of your interest.

Sincerely,

R&B  :-)

Note: Tomasz Staniak in Poland we would like to get your involved too.  We see a BIG future in the Polish market and very much appreciate the support you have offered.  There are many great things coming from Poland, including one of our first Demo Teams for the Scene.   :-D

Hi Ben

You should have posted this here as you did on Ann about DreamOn, we have no reason to flame you do we  ;-)

Anyways this is more Amiga related/interesting than some of the News posts lately.
 Good luck with your company.

Well then, here I am :)
a little bit confused and lost, waiting for more details but also excited to see that something IS being done on the platform I have so much heart and sentiment for.
I hope my and my team's experience will become handy in the project you are planning.

Well, I'm also developing a game project, being isometric 3D strategy game, more info on that when I make some significant progress...

And yes, I think, it might work well on PDA's and such, graphics engine should be(come) relatively easily scalable to any resolution...

Ok... So I have a few questions concerning the games
you need:

 1) What "quality" do you require ?
I mean: I can create games but no games of a
commercial quality I'm afraid ;) (at least not as good
as Ben Yoris's new Studio will do ;))
But I can create/port games... So just tell me:
If you don't want such high quality games, I
can make it... if you need high (ie.: commercial)
      quality games, I won't do it ;=)

 2) If I have understand correctly, these games are
targeted to the new STB/TNT market: so the
     screen shoudn't exceed 640x480 ?

 3) Should the game work on full-screen or window
      mode ?

 4) Do you have some game types preferences ? ;)
(I am working on a PuyoPuyo style game for the
GBA: I could work on the MorphOS version in
      parallel...)

Regards,
Leo.

Great Games!

Between, the responses here and the emails we have received in the last 12 hours we will get a mailing list started and begin to give this group access to information and some structure in which to move ahead.

If you want to be included send us an email.

Best regards,

Raquel and Bill   :-)

Yeah, it looks like a setup to me. Like Genesi (or bbrv, whatever) told these guys to come and pretend to have just now heard of Genesi and it's need for software. I suspect that is the case. Get these old timer/famous Amigans to pledge seemingly spontaneous support in a public forum as if they had stumbled across the original post by accident and were so impressed by it that they just had to stp in and discuss themselves.

It's not a news post because then it would have to have a little more truth in execution.

I would have preferred this to be a discussion, rather than a "discussion". It's an advertisement in disguise.

Therefore the :-(.

Maybe so. But I'll tell you something.
When I was making the move to the other platforms to make games for them I had a plan to earn some money, experience and get back to the Amiga as fast as possible. I was preparing ideas, projects, asking a lot of people for the copyrights for their games. But as time passed I saw that nothing was changing on the "around Amiga" market. People were more and more divided, arguing about stupid things.

I've lost the sense of coming back.

And now this. This brought back the ideas. This seems to be what I've dreamed of in the first place - colaboration of several companies, working together on the platform they like/love/sympatise with.

Is this an advertisement? I guess so. But if I would post a thread on this forum, that "graphician for the newest 3D Strategy for Pegasos and AmigaOne needed" or "individualists - unite" and somebody would ask for more details - wouldn't this be an advertisement?
I would be obliged to give him these details therefore I would advertise my product (cheap). Don't you think?
As for the VIP's. Maybe they were asked to get back here and write something "for the public", I don't know. But hey, they are people. It was their decission to do it.

This is my point of view.

Hi weirdami!

Of course, it is an advertisement!  We thought the X-Files reference would clue everyone in.  Ask yourself what it is an advertisement for...  ;-)

Can you image three people with three groups/BUSINESSES standing behind them that could bring more initial credibity to the effort?

Since the first post we could add a twelve more -- each of which has developed their own games before and have the sources.   Cool, eh?!

This is what developing a successful platform is all about.  Technology is great, but what you can do with it is more important!

If the Pegasos and MorphOS is successful it will be because talented Developers became interested in the platform.  Games is one of the high cards in our hand and we intend to support and PLAY it.  :-D

Best regards,

R&B   :-)

I'd look at it more as a "press release", but in a different shape. It has the same purpose as press release (spreading corporate news to the public) but in the shape of a forum post.  ;-)

A port of the SDL library would also be nice, this way you would get a lot of games for free, like the nice frozen-bubbles for example.

Sheesh! Sure a lot of whining about what gets placed where! As if it made any difference - since no matter what platform it is about a bunch of bashing and whining and resentment and conspiracy theories will be expressed  there. Maybe everything needs to get lumped into just ONE category here on Amiga.org so that we can enjoy one-stop-shopping ... wouldn't even need threads ;  }

But here we have a company going foward, attracting proven talent, providing support and structure for games developers, and placement too. So, is that news? I think so. But I don't care what you call it.

Anyway, email BBRV if you want in, and we'll get it set up for you in Phoenix :  }
