A1200 keyboard interface problems
« on: February 14, 2003, 09:45:00 AM »
Hi..

Last night I installed a keyboard interface into my 1200, which is going through the process of being towered. It's the type which fits directly into the old keyboard ribbon-cable slot, supposedly PC and Amiga keyboard compatible.

It works well with a PC keyboard, but when I use it with an A4k keyboard it produces symbols instead of normal text (i.e. what you'd expect to get if holding down control or something).

Also, the right mouse button seems to have stopped working after installing the interface, which is quite annoying when you need to access some pull-down menus.

Any help greatly appreciated.

do not use a 4k keyboard....! are you sure it`s compatable?

I Have one my-self, with  a `custom` DEVS: keymap driver...(.if it is compatable ,then you just need a new keymap)...

It's long ago since I towered an A1200 :-)
but I think you have to use a Standard PC-Keyboard instead of an A4k...

When my A1200 keyboard died I replaced it w/Power Computings keyboard adapter. It didn't come w/an owners manual which I stated to Software Hut so they could insert one for the next buyer.
I installed it and those odd symbols you mentioned did appear and the pc keyboard wasn't responsive.
I switched it around [had to cut up the shield just to make it fit] and it worked great though the "Pause" wouldn't work so I replaced it w/my A2500 keybrd.
After talking to Russ at http://www.mrhardwarecomputers.com/
I found that their adapter was cheaper in price and programmable.
