It did it again! Every since this site "had to be changed/updated", I cannot complete a 3 minute response without being logged out! I just lost a thoughtful response and have to try it again. It sort of destroys my desire to participate. Lurking might be better.
I'll calm down now.

Time for your medication change Mr.Tenacious :roflmao:
-
Workaround: remember to select and copy your entire post to the clipboard before hitting "submit," that way you can just log in again and paste it.
Don't like workarounds? Give up on computers.

Indeed, but it *IS* a pain! lol An unnecessary one IMO :(
-
Yes, I learnt that workaround with those web page "contact us" forms that time out without telling you until you have pressed submit and it all disappears.
Computers. Love em and then mercilessly destroy them :hammer:
-
Nope, can't agree that it is a "computers" issue. Computers only do what they are told to. This is some setting that an ADMINISTRATOR decided to set.. And it was set to too short a timeframe.
Absolutely ZERO reason to piss off your users by logging them off every 12 seconds.
Asinine..

Actually, I have found that vbulletin doesn't destroy any of my posts if I get logged out. You enter your logn details and lo and behold, your post is submitted.
Also, login directly to the UserCP page and check the "remember me" box. Works fine for me.
-
I can't say I've ever had this problem, the last time this site told me that I wasn't logged in was months ago, and I come here at least once a day.
I'm leaving this reply in edit mode for more than 5 minute to see if anything bad will happen when I post it. Posting...
- edit - 10 minutes later, no problem.

It is a useful work around but it should not be required. I got out of the habit years ago when this was fixed in the old system.
Lately, I've been logged out, it seems, at random timeouts, regardless of what OS I login with, XP, OSX, Amiga. The last 2 times the requester was different - showing the re-login requester right there. I made the mistake of hitting the Back key (worked in the past) instead.
BTW - Last night I remained logged in for hours.
Sorry for the anger. I feel much better now, even without medication.

Seriously, log out on purpose then go to User CP (http://www.amiga.org/forums/usercp.php)
You'll get a login form in the main panel that includes the "remember me" option. Tick it, log in and you are done. You won't get logged out from that machine again until you decide to, even if you log in from a different machine during the meantime (unless you explicitly log out on the different machine, that is).
If you do get logged out again, it's because something has thrown away your cookie.
Trust me, I was logged in permanently from my home machine since the new site went live. I've only ever logged out recently to test stuff.

Thanx for your help, Karlos. I'll try it.
-
I hate chiming in with a "me, too" response. Even so, I have to say that I do not have the time-out experiences you have when making posts. Now, I did have logout problems until I pitched my Firefox profile and built a new one.
Also, I use an add-on for Firefox called Lazarus which allows you to retrieve form contents when lost for whatever reason.

@ Karlos
You are a moderator - I am sure you have different settings!
You may notice my posting has dropped way off. This is the very reason why. It just plain silly how fast we are logged off now.

Correction. I am a moderator now, I wasn't one for a good while after the new site went live and I had no such issues then, either.
Please try logging in via the method above. The default login box doesn't seem to provide the "remember me" option, but the one that appears when you try to access the UserCP without being logged in does:

I have my laptop, home desktop and around half a dozen workstations at work from which I visit a.org with and since the move to vBulletin I've not had a single problem. Just tick the box as Karlos has said and all will be fine.

@Karlos
Moderator eh?
Congratulations dude.
Hope this doesn't mean the Amiga.org logo is going to change as often as your avatar though. :D
Damn. First thing I don't like about the new website - the old smileys are gone. They're the first ones I really used, and the only ones I ever liked: all the other website smileys just looks cheesy (eg :D - See!).
Awwwww! :sulk:

Have no fear. Moderators can only moderate, not tinker with the actual site layout. My becoming a moderator wasn't as a result of the site needing any additional moderators, as I'm sure you'll agree the existing mods do a fine job. Wayne made me a moderator whilst the site was being migrated from xoops as it allowed me to access certain features of the site that were important while testing and migrating the old content.

Actually, most of the smileys are the same. There's just a few new ones.

I, for one, can report that I have never experienced any issues with getting logged off - although I do always click the "Remember Me" box.
-
:) :o :p :(
Are they?? But... they're all shaded and stuff. And the eyebrows, man...
 looks the same, but I'm sure the ":)" smileyface used to look yellower and more friendly, in a way which said "Welcome to Amiga.org"
I like the new site though. For me there was nothing wrong with the old one, but then again I'm not the one doing the admin.
EDIT: Wait a minute... WAAAAIT a minute - no pint ( :pint: ) anymore?!?! :(

:drink: <- (drink, not pint)

Whew!
Thanks dude! :drink:
Alas, I'm on the Carlsberg party leftovers here. The Guinness-smooth velvety-blackness is making my mouth water...mmm... beer...
-

Hang on, you have a HSV wheel in your avatar and you are complaining that something else is shaded? :D
-
Ah, well, yes. Hmmm...
Good point :)

I used to have the problems with the site logging me out after about 3 minutes and it was very annoying, but since a few weeks ago when I did what Karlos has suggested in this thread it no longer happens. Ive been idling here for a few weeks now and have never been logged out.

I was sure I had checked that box - but it wasn't checked. That seems to have ended the problem. Thanks
