Title: Print to PDF (PS)
Post by: radzik on May 18, 2010, 11:55:17 PM
I'm dreaming about print from AmigaWriter or things to pdf. As I know first I must print to PS. I have OS 3.9, so I have in Devs/Printers PostScript printer and what next? Should I use CMD from Tools? Should I change tooltypes of it? I must use InitPrinter?
When I click CMD and then try to print my Ami hangs... I have never got real/virtual printer under Amiga.

Hmmmm - I always used TurboPrint (http://www.irseesoft.de/default.htm) since I got my first Miggy back in 1989.

I have to admit that I never had the need to use the PostScript feature up to now, but I know that TP supports it.

Regarding PDF:
1st option:
online conversion PostScript to PDF (http://www.ps2pdf.com/)

2nd option:
online conversion RTF to PDF (http://www.sautinsoft.net/html-to-rtf-convert.aspx)
Many wordprocessors for the Amiga offer RTF export, e.g. FinalWriter.
Here you can convert them online to PDF.

3rd option:
fxScan (http://www.softhut.com/cgi-bin/test/Web_store/web_store.cgi?page=catalog/software/utilities/util_fxscan.html&cart_id=)
Aside from scanning and being able to convert to PDF it offers "Optical Character Recognition" (or more commonly just "OCR")...

4th option:
PageStream (http://www.grasshopperllc.com/PageStream/features.php)
One of the world's best DTP programs with lots of features - including PDF...

Does Ghoscript 8.70 do PDF conversions?

Yes and it works good. But how can I print to PS with OS 3.9 (without TurboPrint)? How to set up Postscript printer and CMD?

Eventually how setup Turbo Print? With which Printer (TurboPrint or WB)? When I try to do something and print to file (ram:prt) it isn't PS file.

Not sure why you insist in PostScript.
Just save your document as RTF (e.g. with FinalWriter) and convert it online...

I never had to bother with PS up to now.
What is it good for?

Don't you have TP? It's definitively worth buying! Then you get the manual as well. I still have some older versions with manual - but all in German...

The list of supported printers is on the page I linked above.

IIRC, if you start TurboPrefs by presing + + , there's a checkbox  "Print to File" on the PostScript-tab...

I have AmigaWriter (I think it can export to RTF). But if I have document with pictures etc. can RTF manage it?

It's universal, and with PS printer I can print from evry soft I have.

Can I download demo from somewere, so I can check it if it works?
