1010 Daisy-Chain Issue
« on: May 14, 2010, 02:45:58 PM »
Hi, I just got an extra 1010 disk drive and daisy-chained it to the existing one I have hooked up to my A1000, but now when I try to boot the machine it just presents the insert kick-start screen, even though I've got the disk in the system drive.. Any ideas what the problem is?

Another Amiga drive daisy chaining issue. Hmm... does the latest drive work okay by itself? For people having these kinds of issues, I'd suspect a bad or weak power supply. #1 problem for computer fails. I'd start by rebuilding the power supply: capacitors first. If it still doesn't work, then check diodes and bridge rectifiers next.

You're supposed to be able to hook up to 3 external drives on an Amiga. I have 2 external drives on my A1000 and it works fine.

Hmm, I have another A1000 stripped for parts lying around still with its power supply, I'll try switching them out and see what happens, thanks.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out. Just because you have another A1000 power supply, it's possible that too needs to be rebuilt. Hopefully it'll just work for you though.

The first thing to do would be to remove the existing drive and try to boot the 1000 with just the new drive attached. Before you mess with power supplies and stuff.
