@Henning

The VT8231 in it's current (latest) revision
does not have any critical bugs, perfoms just
as good (if not better) than the 686B (with a
SW-based bugfix), offers more features and uses
less power.

But no no no, that is not the true path and
most therefore be wrong  :-P
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

@Kronos

As far as I remember (from IA32), the VT8231 has/had at least a voltage problem, and has/had the same DMA problems, as the VT82C686B is told to have.
Best regards,
Henning Nielsen Lund [Denmark]...

Googlism "Who is MAI?"

Googlism for: takemehomegrandma

Sorry, Google doesn't know enough about takemehomegrandma yet.

Googlism for: olegil

Hehe. 4 out of 5 (really 3 out of 4, one space doesn't make a summer swallow. Or something) is from roleplaying where someone has posted logs to their webpage. The last comes from a quote around September, I think. Of course, the major part of hits on Google for my name are Norwegian pages, so won't fit that well with googlism :-)

Yeap the 1st revision had the same probs as the
686B, but since the the 8231 was brand new and
targeted for high-price-devices (laptops) while the
686 was allready on its way out they fixed the 8231.

You won't find a "VIA_DMA_bug" in any Pegasos.

It may also be that the 8231 is a bit harder use
for the HW-engineer, but that isn't "our" prob.

>SMP Question

Hello
AMD had announced that their chipset for Opteron is "stackable" / sizeable for more than 2 CPU SMP.
As an example: 2 CPU with 1 chipset IC, 4 CPU with 2 chipset ICs, 6 CPU with 3 chipset ICs etc.

Is it possible for MAI to design and create future PowerPC chipsets with similar capability?

I don't want to start another flame thread, but only a clarification.

I have found this statement in a Linux forum, in a message from a systems engineer
to someone working at SuSe Labs:

"686 rev 40/41 and VT8231 rev 10/11 have the PCI corruption bug!"

What does this exactly mean? What revision of VT8231 is used on the Pegasos?
