I think that's due to the moderators manually approving of pics.

I don't know yet.  Earlier prices I'd gotten were roughly $150 per month for a dedicated server with cpanel.

:-o That sounds pretty expensive. Can't imagine US hosters are more expensive than the german ones.

Since the USD is less now than the euro, they're about the same.

Doesn't matter anyway, because unless the Amiga computer and it's community makes a miraculous rebound, there simply isn't enough income available, nor interest abound, to support a $150 per month dedicated server at this time.

re: search being slow.

That's because there's about 7 years of data built up on the site.  I could really speed things up by deleting years of old posts, but that idea has always been met with resistance.

Saw this topic and I know it's old but I just wanted to say: search is the most slow from using the site in general.

Years, and years, and years of data tend to do that.

Submitted images must be manually approved due to abuse in the past.

Unrelated to speed but the "image manager" in the post editor doesn't work properly
The "Image manager" is a completely unused portion of the site in general.  I'd remove access to it if I could, but it's tied to a few things that would break without it.

What exactly is causing the slow-downs? Is it database-crunching, or is it a sheer bandwidth-thingie?

If it's because of bandwidth issues, wouldn't it be possible to have a low BW-version of the forum?

It's having a roughly 300 megabyte database dating back 5 years or so.

Ahh! That explains it. Well, nothing to do about it, then. At least not until we start to remove older posts. Is it possible to store the old posts as static pages instead? That would reduce some of the load of the server, without actually removing anything.

Is it not possible to make a seperate archive with no post access, so that you can free up some resources on the active forum.
