Title: Missing games...
Post by: FuZion on January 28, 2003, 09:24:52 PM
Ok ok..

Before I get on with this, I KNOW we want big 3D games with all the effects under (and on the surface of) the sun but think back a bit... Ooh & Worms Armageddon but.......

Putty Squad from System3? The demo alone still makes me smile... Where is it? Can we get it? Somebody MUST have this somewhere?! A gift to the community maybe?

G2 from Psygnosis (Really!)? HOW many people are saying `G' who? Again, I only experienced a demo of this -Amiga Format Disk 63b if you can get hold of a copy- Hmmm... Kinda Space Hulky this one. The demo was SMART! It just took too long to load & you had to reload to play again. Where is it? Can we.. Get the point ;-)

What do you all think about trying to get these games?

Can anyone think of anymore?

A pointless thread? Maybe. Maybe not. Most of us play a game or two. Why not play games NOBODY has played commercially?

Right, off me soap box & back under me rock again :-D

There are just TOO many Miggy missing games...

1) I remember P.I.D., a sort of Overdrive rally-clone by Terramarque (the guys behind Elfmania ;) with incredible graphics, it had to be published by Renegade...

2) RETRO by Core Design, a sort of 3D - 1st person Speedball clone...

3) Ruby Fire: an horizontal shooter with Roger Dean-style gfx

4) "King of Thieves" by Team17 (Brimble, Holmes, Tadic)

5) Galactic by Stavros Fasoulas (we only have a coverdisk demo...)

6) PlanetSide by Psygnosis (remember the demo on the CDTV version of Lemmings? ;)

7) A.C. SYS (discontinued AGA Turrican-clone)

8) Z (BitMap Bros.) - no need for words...

9) "Hardcore - the blast" and "Malfunction" by Digital Illusions

There are lots more, I'm costantly looking for such discontinued projects since I'm planning a sort of "vintage gaming" softco with a couple of friends... ;)

About Putty Squad: wasn't it published 5 years ago or so?

About cool NG 3d games: I WANT SPEEDBALL 3 ARENA!!!
BITMAP BROS. WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?! ;) :-D

Hi,

Did anyone ever tried Die Hard on the Amiga? I know it is there but I never tried it myself.

AFAIK Alive Mediasoft was going to publish it but it seems like it never got released this second time either. Alive ran into problems, or was it people (and developers) who ran into problems with Alive?

I did try Die hard, but I never liked it....

There is heaps of discontinued games, mostly because of the Commodore death.

anyway one of the games (except for Putty squad) i want the most is : WJS (former Psygnosis and Ocean Team) 's MIGHTY MAX , its a plattformer, i have like 3 previews of it and a small demo
, its a very polished game (VERY!!!) its a mix of Mr Nutz and Brian the lion (or something) , plattformer yes..
It was supposed to hit Cd32 and A1200  in 95, but due to it needed fast mem and abit more than what the cd32 could offer...., the game got canned (Afaik)

I have tried to reach WJS, but i cant find em listed anywhere (as a company now) , also did OCEAN split up and went to Infogrames and Team17? or???

Psygnosis in 94 was like ..err not a good team, sony bought it and all the good teams left them or made only special contracts, then added alot of junk teams into em (like THE DOME,SPIDERSOFT etc)
Reflections moved to GTI,DMA moved aswell....no wonder Superhero and G2 never came...or all the other Special games that we waited for...

There's one game which springs to mind when talking about missing games: Evil's Doom. Apparently it was almost finished, but never released. I recall the demo being awesome. :-(

Oh, more games:

-Witchwood by Team17 (sort of Final Fantasy/Zelda RPG)
-Lambda (VERY COOL 3D space combat simulation)
-Settlers2 (ok, we have Foundation instead...;)
-Project X2 by Team17 (published on PSX, was originally targeted to AGA Amigas)
-Cyberfight by Particle Systems (Powell/Williams, the guys behind Warhead)

Gosh, lots of games indeed!!! :-D

BTW, concerning Evil's Doom like games... years ago I worked also on a game on that style, but never finished it... if anyone wants to finish it, contact me :)
(SteffenH@hyperion-software.de)

The GFX Engine was blockgraphics based, but had (like Evil's Doom) Highres Graphics. It was GFX Board only (while Evil's Doom was AGA Only). It was possible to move into all different angles (including "Up", "Down"), of course only in 90 Degree steps. Hmmm, if I remember right it was actually 45 degee steps, not sure anymore, it has been so long ago :)

While Evil's Doom was an actual game-demo, "my" game was not much more than a walkthrough graphics engine, though.

Last i checked, lambda was still in development.

And i think it will come eventually, but the guys behind it are still busy (anything new?)

Anyway i am not sure due to that its "OH My god" over 1 year since i was talking to them, hmm maybe freespace put em off?.

but hmm wasnt Evils doom released????? , now i am confused...maybe i only saw the demo..hmmm damn now i gotta play the demo :P

thanx for reminding me :)

7) A.C. SYS (discontinued AGA Turrican-clone)

this game is DEAD and wont be ressurected, it had a vote poll regarding if we wanted it to come or not , and
sadly not many cared about it so this WILL never come and thats for sure (was it a big loss? , check the demo)

anyway i belived that this list was about FINNISHED or almost finnished games and not early alpha stuff,
All the Team17 games that has been mentioned in this list never was over the first look (paper->computer), and about X2 (px2) which is one of the
worst games i have seen from team17, DO WE really have to talk about this crap??...
project X still roxx.

INFERNO (DID) is another game supposedly to come the same time TFX was to arrive, both was finnished but wasnt really :) , remeber the c.u amiga fiasco?? :)

You're quite right, especially about X2. Maybe TraumaZero (aka: T-Ø) is better, just dunno, never played it (shame on me).
Anyway I was talking about broken promises. AFAIK "Hardcore" by DICE was to be released on Sega MegaCD but never made it. "Witchwood" (Team17) moved from Miggy to Jaguar, and yet never saw the light of day. Lambda is still a cool piece of code, and I hope to get my hands on it ASAP!

 Bye!

Yeah, it was first Amiga, then they (and Psygnosis) decided to go for Mega Drive (or CD-version) instead. But Psygnosis cancelled it. It was supposedly 98% complete according to DICE.

EA's NHL-series. I remember seeing in Amiga Format (93 or 94 I think) that this was in the release lists. Would have been really cool. I played the Mega Drive versions to death, and the old ones are still as playable today.

EA and Ocean had quite a few games to be ready in 95/96/97 , but as you might remeber....it went belly up due to commodore died and all the publsihers belived AMIGA also died....

VERY SAD!!! ;((

OT: Lempkee, I don't think Commodore dying was responsible for the Amiga's death, at least not directly. In 1994 - the peak of the Amiga's popularity - DOOM established the PC as a games computer. All the gamers ran off and got one. After that Amiga games tended to be sawn-off ports of PC ones because PC hardware was more powerful - and getting more powerful by the day.

By '95 is was standard to have a CD-ROM on a PC - but almost nobody had one on an Amiga. The games companies left for the PC as Amiga market profits plummeted. Probably Commodore's death resulted in no more faster, better Amigas being made to compete with the ugly PC clones, Frankstein monsters of circuits built on top of those crappy greenscreen office computers that PCs used to be.

That's the irony - a PC as a games computer? That's like having a 100 tonne truck to go buy groceries with.

Back on topic: many of the missing Amiga games - like TFX and Settlers 2 - disappeared even though they were ready, because almost nobody had the spec to run them. That was cause of the end of gaming on the Amiga.

How about Armour Geddon? 1 or 2?
I would love someone to do an Armour Geddon BattleField 1942 Mod.

And what would you call an A1200 in a towercase with a PPC board on the CPU slot, a GFX glued onto the CPU board's own bus, a Z2 bus board between the PPC card and the actual A1200 mobo. A Z2 network card squashed on that. Oh and an external keyboard interface wedged between the Z2 busboard and the mobo.

THAT's what I would call a Frankenstein creation. :-D.

@kennyR , as much as you and me (amiga fanatics) wants to belive
in that story or not, well i can assure you of one thing! , thats not what happened.

Tfx wasnt done, inferno wasnt done and settlers 2 was done but not RIGHTS for it (99),

Anyway people left for pc and such , why? ..well easy as no one wanted to do like i did ,
i bought a 060 when that came (first in norway) , i bought a PPC when that came (number 5 in the que)
, people on AMIGA expect EVErYTHING to run out of the box even now.

3 days ago someone heard that i was a regged moovid owner , guess what...he asked me very politely if it COULD run DIVX on a 030 AGA setup.

AMIGA OWNERS still thinks the hw is better than everything , in a way thats what i keep saying also but hmm not in that kinda way :)
(atleast not by CLassic).

1995 was the year when everything turned, the amiga future looked REALLY bad, games companies pulled out and stopped assigning new games/apps and only the garage stuff kept on.
in the end of 95 people told me that DOOM was still impossible to run on amiga, i started up SS and showed em DOOM and Warcraft on my amiga trough that setup and people was amazed.
just to end it like this, the ONLY reason why it all went like it did (and still are) is because of the ANTI UPGrADE + THE ANTI BUYING , its sad i know, hopefully people by now UNDERSTANDS that they have the future in their hands.

TFX was released by cu AMIGA btw :)
Settlers 2 was withdrawn because of porting rights etc.
Inferno never came (was finnished) ... no one wanted to upgrade their machines anyway...

sadly it seems that even now when i have a setup like i do, well i cant go higher as there aint one atm, and still the stuff runs dead slow..

good luck to all and WE ARE NOT in 95 now, its all comming back and lets be positive.

(games sold worser in 95/6 compared to 2002 (by an user count.) but that means diddly yet anyway.

Odin, I'd prefer to spend money on patching up an A1200 I could use for years rather than buy a new PC clone every year they've patched up in a similar but micro-scale way in a silicon lab somewhere. :-)

maybe if Team17 had got the rights from Id to port Doom to Miggy, then Amiga community might be much bigger nowdays;) of course, AB3D rocked and we have got Doom anyway:)

How about trying to coax some companies into releasing abandonware or unreleased stuff. Start a petition reactivate interest from companies previously developing for the platform.

@kennyr:

Got a point there =), but for non-gaming uses it's totally unneccessary to upgrade a PC every year. My father's PII still functions nicely for his web/homebanking/document/general usage.
