-A4000D Floppy Disk Problem.
« on: May 12, 2010, 12:02:04 AM »
Hello,

I am Installing a CDROM in any A4000D, everything was fine until I was riding around on trays so I had to disconnect the floppy drive and now I put the cable to the floppy disk and now something happen..

Sometimes the light stay on, other times with a few flashes of light and sound as trrrrrrrrrrrr trrrrrr trrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..
Or maybe all stay in blank screen.

If i disconect the Floppy, the A4000 boot normal from the HD and the CDROM work fine..

Somebody know what are happening here?..

Comments, suggests, are welcome!

Regards!

The switch that detects when a floppy disk is inserted could be broken or have dirty contacts.  It's just on the left hand side of the slot on the disk drive.  Press it down and release it a few times with a suitable object.

Good luck!

Ok, i will check.. although during the assembly process do not touch anything there, just disconnect the floppy cable,  but could possibly be dirty.
I hope thats it!..

Yeah, Amiga OS is known for writing stuff to the disk to try to fix things by itself (like Disk Validator) so if there's any issues with your floppy disk drive (like partially working), your disk is most likely screwed.  But it's well documented so still better than running modern Windows with Spyware/Viruses writing things to your hard drive and communicating in the background without you knowing it and thus slowing things down.
