-Damage in Video Chip?
« on: November 15, 2009, 08:33:56 PM »
Hello,

Sometime i hear about if you conect two monitors to the Amiga, can be damage a Amiga Video Chip. For example, if you uses the Video Composer and RGB outputs in the same time to 2 diferentes monitors.

Can be true this?.

If not, can be damage a Video Chip,  if you use a Video Composer  output and in the RGB conector you have a 23 to VGA adaptor withuot monitor?

Thats a two rumors i hear  a few years ago. I used Amigas with 2 monitors but after hear this i m not do again.

Exists any diference in possible damage in Amiga OCS, ECS or AGA?

Coments.. are welcome

regards

I used a Cybergraphix64/3D with a VGA and the regular video output on a 1084s at the same time with an A4000 and there was no problem.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

Nope. I've been using up to three monitors for years (RTG & Flickerfixer, standard RGB, A2024), there's no problem. As long as you're using different output ports, there's not even a remote possibility of damaging anything.

You can also connect more than one monitor to a single output - if you do that with a simple split cable, the picture grows a bit darker (due to several termination resistors in parallel), but there are amplifiers to get around that.

Actually, it's quite impossible to damage the 'video chip' Denise since the analogue RGB outputs are driven by the 'vidiot' hybrid (pre-AGA at least).

Overload should not be a problem here. We're talking about inconsequential voltages into negligible loads - unlike an audio power amplifier into a set of speakers.

Besides, these machines were designed to consumer friendly. They wouldn't have more ins and outs than a transsexual-nazi-eskimo without littering the computer and manuals up without warning labels everywhere ;-)

Ok,

Then, in any A1200 Desktop (without Video Cards), can keep conected to RGB Output any 23 pins to VGA Adaptor (without monitor) (adaptor pic  attached) and conected via video  Composer to Video RCA Monitor, and not will damaged the Video A1200 chip?.. Right?

Hi, I use the RGB and the composite video outputs simultaneously. No problem here.
