I can`t remember now, but is like GVP (Great Valley Products): A2000 SCSI+8 its veri similar... you know the HD has a own controller, and in other Zorro Slot it has this for the CD ROM drive (Creative) .

If you have a GVP SCSI card in your A2000, then scsi.device is not what you need. You need to go into the tooltypes of your CD0 icon and make sure it is pointing to gvpscsi.device. Only when you use Commodore's built in IDE or A2090/A2091 do you use scsi.device.

I've never spent much time with 2.0, but look in your sys:devs/storage/DosDrivers folder for CD0. I've never had to use a third party (such as ASIMCDFS) CD ROM controller program on any of my Amiga's, so not sure if they are required on 2.x or not...

You need cd filesysten, asim cd is one possibility.

I belive that gvpscsi.device is in your scsi cars's rom??

Unless the SCSI controller you want to use is the worst designed controller, the device driver is placed in a boot rom on the controller. The device name for this device driver depends on the SCSI controller, a GVP HC2+ has scsidev.device for instance, GVP HC8+ has gvpscsi.device, etc. You can use SysInfo to find out what your device driver is called. When you know what the device driver is called and you have selected an ID on the SCSI drive, you have all the information you need.

On OS2.x you use mountlists; DOSDrivers first comes with OS3.0. Your CDROM installation software would either add the CD drive mountlist to the existing mountlist, or create a seperate mountlist for the CD drive, and execute it through the startup-sequence or user-startup. You have to either edit the global mountlist or the specific mountlist.

Use AmiCDFS or IDEfix97 from http://www.aminet.net to install the CDROM software. The latter is prefered, it comes with a nice program to scan for available device drivers, and works very well if you don't have a problem with a requestor popping up every 30 minutes.

Finally, obtain a ASIMCDF and this came with System Monitor, and later check the system, not reconize the Card and CDROM Drive..

I dont know why.. but its like not installed..

I will need check open the box for see what are happen..

@ drummerboy,

    Use the SCSI inquire routine in ASIMWare CDFS. It will list all SCSI.device(es) in your system. Like several have said, if you have a GVP card, it will be "gvpscsi.device". I hope you have version 3.10 of ASIMCDFS. Earlier version will work, but this is the best.

Also, pending on the SCSI chip on the SCSI card you have and the card's ROM version you will experience issues with removable media like CD ROM, tape and ZIP drives.

 The GVP HC series use a Western Digital 33C93 version 02 chip (the same chip as the Commodore A2091) which is problematic with removable devices. Dig a later chip (latest is version -08) if you are experimenting locks on the Amiga while reading CD units or large partitions/HD.

 ROM version can be an issue, too. Prefer versions 4.9 up to 4.15* (real latest version).

 *Remembering: the "dot" in Amiga ROM versions and libraries is just a separator, like in books, and not a decimal number.

 Do someone can remember if ASIM_CDFS is freeware or not? I know for sure that IDEFix97's CDFS is not.

I hate to ask obvious questions, Bbbbuuutttt, did you find a longer SCSI ribbon cable with multiple connectors so the CD can be included in the internal SCSI chain?  Did you set the CD to a unique SCSI ID? (SCSI IDs 2 thru 6 should be available)

EDIT:  Maybe I missed the obvious.  In the about the 3rd post, you seem to indicate you have a second SCSI card or a dedicated interface for the CD?

I doubt it. AsimWare was bought out by Iomega - and they aren't known for giving anything away! That was a dark day, IMHO.

@Drummerboy

I would be interested in how this works out. I also have a A2000 with OS 2.1 installed. It has a Expansion Systems DataFlyer SCSI/IDE controller. I going to try to mount IDE cd-rom. I had trouble once getting a IDE hardrive to work  but that was years ago and I may have missed a step. The second option if that doesn't work, I'll try getting a SCSI cd-rom. I never had any problems with adding SCSI devices.
I was considering waiting until I get KS/OS 3.1 installed.

@anyone
How much cd-rom support does OS 3.1 have? Do I still need AmiCDFS or IDEfix97 to mount a cd-rom in 3.1? It sounds like once you get to OS 3.0 or higher you don'tset up mount list.

OS3.1 has much better CD suport than previous versions of the OS. As mentioned above you don't need to use a mountlist to mount the drive. OS3.1 comes with a config file for CD Rom support CD0 (either in Storage/dosdrivers or devs/dosdrivers), which you set up for your drive:- device=scsi.device, unit=1 or whatever for your specific set-up). As for a CD file system, OS3.1 comes with Commodre's own CDFileSystem, which you can find in L. There are other CDFile Systems you can use, ASIMCDFS is one, but you can also find free ones on aminet such as AmiCDFS. http://aminet.net/package/disk/cdrom/amicdfs240

@Tumbleweed

Thank you for the helpful information. It will be more of a challange with 2.1 but fun, it will tie me over unti I get 3.1. I would upgrade to 3.9 but I don't have graphics card and I been told OS 3.9 is really slow unless you have an RTG card.
