I am very impressed they kept the RP3 to $35USD.

Yes, fast, reliable wireless connectivity that supports all encryptions and simply can be upgraded by replacing a usb stick. IPv6 - the Pi can do it and act as data-proxy for a few protocols. Samba indeed, or how about implementingan amiga netfs-server for *ix? :) Hooking the Pi serial console to a serial port on the amiga for console on the Pi (and provide PPP-login, if the Amiga doesn't have ethernet), streaming media to the Pi, video, audio.. Install a browser on the Pi use it via RDesktop from the Amiga... all in all, always have a little linux server around inside your Amiga

There is PlipBox that does PLIP using Amiga parallel port - I do wonder if it can be possible to skip the entire arduino-ethernet bit and have Amiga communicate with Pi over the parallel port more directly. Of course, there is voltage differences one would need to take care of.
This is something I seriously considered doing a while back with my RPi but I didn't want to risk damaging the Amiga itself. It'd fit nicely in the trapdoor of an A1200. However the one thing I really really want on all these Raspberry Pi's and all the clones is RAM. Why the hell are we doing only 2GB on the best of them. Add $10-20 and double or quadruple the RAM.

The lack of RAM on a RPi is what causes swap and the I/O on the boards isn't what you'd call fantastic. I have a PCDuino3 because it has SATA onboard. The CPU/GPU on all these micro PCs are good enough to play with, but the lack of RAM and slow I/O prevent them from being used outside of hobbyist situations.

A $15 RPiZero with 2-4GB of RAM would be awesome!

At $35, I have NO complaints in regards to what the Pi 2 does, be it as an emulation station or as a PC. It performs, by leaps and bounds, better than I ever imagined. Now with the Pi 3, I look forward to enjoying more PSP games that I could previously while over clocked, not to mention Dreamcast.

Raspian of course will be even better, and yes it is no desktop replacement, but then again I'd have to be on crack to expect as much. Again, it does exactly what it sets out to do, and a whole lot more. I'm excited to receive these new units and see how far I can push them. It's fun... sort of like pushing old hardware, but cheaper!!! So much cheaper!!!

Seems that the video core the PIs build puts the limit of RAM in the actual 1GB. OTOH, 2GB counterparts (like ODroid models) are pretty efficients as the RAM use under ARM is far less than with bigger processors.

I would be extremely happy with a revision with a mere 2GB, really, really happy :-)

I guess this means that the Pi3 is now a better credit card sized computer than its competitors?

You know I'm glad I held off getting pi, they seem to be improving them at a impressive rate. I might just get myself this one.

Pretty much, I mean there for faster alternatives, but for more money, but the competition always goes for gfx chip sets that are not supported by the Linux Distros for the Pi, such as Raspian and Retropie.

So ya, Pi is the only way to go to make a long story short, unless you know how to code...

I have not ran into a situation with my Pi or any of the software or games that I use where in I felt I needed any more than 1Gb or RAM.

Since when does 30 Euros (or what ever those are) translate to $90.39?!?

I only bought 2 off that site.

The only problem I think the pi has in competition now is how cheap you can get Chinese Android devices now, or even second hand old android phones are becoming.

There a Android Tv dongle that I just found for £17 called (MK809IV) on ebay that has a 1.3Ghz quad core, 2Gb ram, wifi, blutooth, full size usb port and android 4.4 which is good enough to download a lot of android emulators on.
The only down side of these device are the build quality and there usually lock to android so OS wise you cant mess with it like a pi can with software. But still a bargain.

I bought one of those for my parents for Christmas and maxed it out with movies for them to watch.

They are fun for sure, but yes, alas you don't have the freedom and the elbow room as the Pi...
...though they would go well with a Pi. ;)

That's why I've been trying for some time to turn one of these devices into a desktop machine (silent and small size) and believe me, they're still far from capable to run basic desktop gear. Open a browser, a mail client and a Office suite and you'll be stuck for minutes waiting for things to happen...:(

I must to go for a ODroid XU4 to get something like the above and it's not silent anymore.

Why can't a Linux be installed in our old Android phones?, I've some of them and all are far better than the Pi3

None of them seem easier than write an OS image to a SD card; but maybe it's worth to investigate, thanks for pointing this up!
