GGS data has received shipment of AOne G3-SE:s!
« on: December 15, 2002, 12:22:48 PM »
GGS Data, the sole Amiga distributor in Sweden has
received a first small shipment of AOne boards. They
will begin shipping preorders right away.

If you read swedish, there are some general info on the
distribution to be found here.

GGS' news page

All graphics cards mentioned in the text has been tested
successfully by them with AOne + SuSE PPC Linux.

(This is mainly of only local interest, so I didn't post it as a
news item. )

This sound very good, and i believe DK is also doing the same around these times. I have ordered a 700Mhz AmigaOne G3-XE. I guess i would have to wait until early january, but that doesn't matter.

I would recommend you to go for the XE, cause of CPU-upgradability at a later date. Also be aware that even the graphic cards all work fine under Linux, it doesn't necessarily mean it will do in OS4. My best advice will be to go for the ATI Radeon 8500. This has been supported from the start in OS4, so you will be more than happy enough with this one for quite a long while :-)  It still takes some time before ATI 9x00-drivers appears for the AmigaOS, and when it happens, we will also get the new Mesa 5.0/OpenGL 1.4 updated. It may happen in OS4.1 or later version. But for the moment, go for ATI Radeon 8500. Concentrate about the OS4-support, not what is supported in Linux.

Good luck with your machine:-)
Helgis - AMIGA DEFINITELY makes it all possible!!!

'Unfortunately' I have ordered an AmigaOne G4 -XE, so I'll
have to wait a little longer...

I'm not so sure about *initial* Radeon support in AOS4, actually.
When announced, it was up to Hyperion to develop those
drivers. But after taking over the development of the whole
OS, that responsibility went to another team. So far I'm yet
to hear any firm statements on the current state of affairs.

Someone talked about an upcoming hardware compatability
list for the Amiga One (think it was Alan Redhouse).
Hopefully that will mean a list of hardware that are
'AOS4-proof' as well. I'll await that eagerly.
