gdanko@gdanko-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install libxxf86vm1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libxxf86vm1 is already the newest version.

Ignore my ignorance, but could it not have anything to do with the absence of HAL?

I have searched in Google for that error message. For some users it helped to disable XGL or desktop effects.

BTW: I'm running AROS-86_64 on Lucid with the proprietary NVidea driver. With medium desktop effects I don't need to enable "Backingstore" anymore. Only problem is that I can't enable fullscreen mode anymore.
