Title: UAE and ADF..?
Post by: Allen on January 03, 2003, 02:03:20 PM
Ok,

Hope everyone has had a good festive season..?!

On with the question.

I have not yet installed UEA and would like to know a few things first.  I have an A1200 and 3.9 on CD.

How do I get 3.9 onto my Windows box?  I know I need to convert it into ADF or something - how do I do that?  I also need to rip the ROM from my A1200 (not literally I hope :) ) so I was going to use blizkick's ripper SaveROM (I think) doe this work ok?

My real problem though is installing 3.9 as I have no idea on how to do this.

Any help appreciated.

I assume that you have OS 3.1, so why don't get it off the net?
It's not that it's hard to find...

After that, you could use AIAB to get CD-ROM and the rest working with as little work as possible.

Hi,

You have cdronm support in WinUAE so you can acces the cdrom and install it. I never had 3.9 but I think you need to install a previous version first. It should be really simple.

Cool.  I also read that I can plug my Hard drive in and mount it in WinUEA so that will be even easier!

Cheers - Wish me luck!

Just for FYI, outside of having to connect your Amiga HD to the PC, OS3.9 can be installed on a blank disk.  You'll need to boot off a boot ADF with a CD0 mount file in Devs:Dosdrivers with uaescsi.device as the device and 0 as the unit.  Then you should be able to run the CD install onto your HD partition even if nothing is on it yet.  Your mileage may vary.  I had to copy the CD with dos XCopy onto my hard drive and assign the directory as the CD's name for the CD-Install to work cause WinUAE didn't like accessing the DVD-ROM drive directly.  As for the ROM, there should be a "transrom" type program included with WinUAE for you to rip your rom.

I was a bit more adventuresome, I did all the Xfers with my A3k(now dead) and NComm3 and a *LAPLINK* cable.

compiled all my 3.1 floppies into ADFs & xfered them to UAE.

(I have been labelled a command-line-junkie by my brother)

hi

I made 2 directories as partitions WB3.1 & WB3.9

I installed WB 3.1 first, with winuae 817r3
a this version detected my PC cdrom drive the best.

I loaded Workbench from winuae, formatted the partition, accessed my cdrom drive from the desktop and installed O3.9 to WB3.9
