Greetings,
What do you think are the most addictive games that you played on the Amiga
that makes you keep comming back for more and more and still play it even though you've
finished that game, but still crave for it? I myself would like to play it 'raw',
meaning, no cheat, higher level and more!!
Here's some of the list of games and a few comments thereof:

The rest of the games i find too hard for me. I would get soo angry if I could not made it to the next level or something. Hate it. Can't stand it. But with Deluxe Galaga I can :D it's amazing

Mmm....F1GP, SWOS, Poing 4 (gazillions of levels, but the lure of the high score is always there), FaYoh 2 (I WILL complete it someday! I WILL!!!!), Oh No! More Lemmings (er, ditto. 95% complete), Bill's Tomato Game (Argh! 99% complete!), Ruff 'N' tumble (difficulty level is pitched absolutely perfectly).
Not to mention Civilisation and Colonisation! come on, on with the lootings and the pillagings!

Wow, good thread. Addictive Amiga games...let's see. Well, I broke a couple of joysticks playing Falcon and Gunship 2000; Pirates! was amazing, I loved that on the Amiga (it's a shame it didn't have the same fidelity as Pirates! Gold for the PC did, but it was still a blast)...
Bard's Tale on the Amy was amazing, loved it.
Deluxe Galaga and...there was an Arkanoid/breakout style game I can't remember the name of right now, damn I used to play that a lot! Scorched Tanks was another good'un.
Oddly, the little platformer/side-scroller games never appealed to me, although now I play the hell out of Black Tiger on MAME for my PC.

Yup. The Settlers gets my vote too. I still play it quite often.
Microprose Formula 1 Grand Prix was also very addictive. Too bad solid 3D from the early nineties hasn't aged too well.

I was never a big gamer but my friends were and they used to come down to my house to play my machine (I lived right in the centre of town) to play everything.
Settlers was good, one of the few games I ever really played. I remember sitting down after tea to play then looking up and 6 hours had gone by...
Dune 2 another, and syndicate but I never played it that much.
The one game we all played for seemingly ever was called Walords, the graphics were crap, the sound so bad we switched it off but the gameplay for multiplayer was fantastic, we had many evenings of Warlords, Budweiser* and my strange musical taste (UB40, Alannah Myles, Meatloaf, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran etc.).
*Budweiser, I was young and foolish!

My son got addicted to a copy of Monopoly that was on an AF coverdisk, too.

oh my god settlers
me and my brother played it(2 player) a hole day(from 10:00 in the morning to 20:00 in the evening) only to realize the hole map was full(And our stomaches was empty like a hole to the other side of the galaxy) and we had to start killing the 2 other player and later each other :)

Menace - my favourite shoot-em-up. I love the music.
Red Storm Rising - dated graphics, but I still love to play.
Ports of Call - addictive as hell.
Speedball 2 - used to play "league" with buddies & beer!
Kick Off 2 - same reason as speedball 2!!!
Bards Tale 1 & 2 - who needs sleep?
Cannon Fodder 1 & 2 - kill, kill, kill!!!
Civilization - forced me to buy a PC when Civ2 came out!

X-Com: UFO EU AGA - Gerry Anderson's UFO Series in a game.

It has to be Dune 2 - I'm amazed that only one other person has mentioned it so far...
Certainly one of the best reasons for firing up the Miggy again. Each time I come back to it I wonder why I haven't played it recently!

Settlers - play it regularly in 2-player mode! The best!
Pirates - made pages of handwritten maps for that
Dune 2 - the first good RTS!
Sensible Soccer - nuff said
EOB1+2 - way cool, also in two player where you play on seperate computers and go through the game ;)

Poing 4 and Poing 5, a PD arkanoid clone but seriously awesome, just so cool. Keeps me playing for quite a while.
Colonization which i feel deserves a multiplayer version which would make it most excellent.
Kumquat - a funky shareware space enclosing game
Collision Course Alpha - a freeware game flying a ship avoiding stuff. More fun fun fun!

What type of game was turboraketti?
Another Addictive game was the game called
Ballraider 2. It came with my A500, when I got it.
Really simple, but oh so addictive.

turboraketti was 2d a gravity-game.
Me and my brother played it much, but of cource, he won verry easy.
You start in your base, by weapons and try to kill each other.
It`s cool to fool the ...rocket that goes after heat,,follows you..fool it to go after your oponent that first shot it.
You die if you crash in the wall`s

Right, the record for me is a 13-hour Worms marathon with 6 lads and a few beers. Though Dogfight is always a good one at parties, ppl fighting over wanting to play again and again and again (even though most of them only have a vague idea what an Amiga is), but single player: Settlers, Syndicate, Dune II, and I think I may be alone on this one, but Birds of Prey cost me weeks of my life...

I think the most addictive games are the Master Blaster 2.21 and the Dogfight (you can download these from aminet). Very good multiplayer games and very funny ;D. With Master blaster you can play with your 4 frend if you have a joystick adapter (4 joy+keyboard)!!!

Monkey Island is definitely one of the coolest. The music in that game was the best. I know I used to play Bubba'b'Stix but I can't remember it for the life of me. I'll have to hunt that one out of my boxes and check it out again. The name is ringing too many bells.

Bubba had really nice gfx, inventive ideas (was the first time i came across a tree following me), very good gameplay and riddles even i could solve - really like(d) that game :)

Probably more, but my memory is faulty. Even if I were to remember the games, I prolly forgot the names. One thing I notice though, is that I was SO glad when I got my first CD-ROM drive. I thought I finally got rid of the endless disc-swapping...

I used to have a Virus Scoreboard on my site, I'd love to put it up again. Any other Virus fiends out there? The first day I had the game I played for something like 14 hours straight. David Braben rocks (where have we heard that before), and Virus is one sick and twisted game, esp. on an accellerated box. Nothing quite like level 7 or 8 on an 040 (unless you've managed to get it to run on a Dual G4 when I wasn't looking...) The faster the machine the *further* you can go, if ya ketch me drifffff...

The games on Amigas AND on Cloanto Amiga Forever emulator I find the most addictive include:
a. Fastram 'DOZER' (demo in an Amiga format AF58 1994 - 100 level disk available back then for £5/shared by me as .adf often on WinMX/Soulseek).
b. All of LEMMINGS, although some of Christmas ones were a bit ropey.
c. CADAVER - both games plus 3 magazine demos.
d. KNIGHTMARE plus 3 magazine demos.
e. All of DIZZY adventure games.
f. MONKEY ISLAND 1 & 2.
g. INDY/ATLANTIS.
h. GODS.
i. HEAD OVER HEELS.
j. BATMAN THE CAPED CRUSADER - both parts (although the Commodore C64 version played/ran better).
k. RICK DANGEROUS 1 & 2.
l. MAGIC POCKETS.
m. TIMEKEEPERS - both games.
Although annoying at times, I like a bit SIMON THE SORCEROR and originally bought PCs from 1996 to play 3D LEMMINGS-SIMON THE SORCEROR 2.
Only decent PC games I have bought/play are MONKEY ISLAND 3 & 4 and INDY/INFERNAL MACHINE (follow up XBox developed PC INDY/EMPEROR'S TOMB is too bad in places).
These were for me so addictive that every couple of years I took a year or two out from work to play them as they were more fun.

This one is the better fantasy strategic/wargame ala Warhammer turn based game I played. You can play up to 4 players.
It is a very simple game to handle (like was Nectaris for the PC Engine) and you can even edit your maps. I edited one that kept us playing it hours with a friend.
I still have this map if someone is interested (an army of soldiers, knights, elves, dwarfs againts 4 or 5 necromencer, but near a cemetary ! It's a rush and a total apocalypse !!!

I can't believe that nobody added Freecell to your list! I know it is a PC giveaway/standard, but the port to amiga (from aminet I think) looks good and has multiple take-back-move levels. Sometimes heavy duty backing out of a bad strategy will crash my machine, but it works well enough to be a good learning/training device and has upped my overall percent to the mid 80s.
I love Galaga, Pinball, and Megaball, but Freecell is the one that forces me to play one more game. Part of the addiction is that a game is over pretty fast, so you can play in between doing other things without feeling guilty about "wasting time".

Combat Air Patrol was a good flight sim, as was TFX. Can you believe it... you upgrade to '060 and then TFX won't work. '040 owners suddenly have an advantage!

I've never found an artillery game that comes close to this one. The option to fire multiple weapons at once with different delivery styles is what sets this game apart from all the rest.

to put it simple NONE!... i like alot of games but none of them can make me just drag out everything and setup the amiga for just a simple play, dont get me wrong the amiga gotta alot of good retro games... but thats it also... nothing new i havent tryed before... only when i am in the mood and feel like it i set up the amiga.... the amiga havent been used since 2 year now...

Why don't you just sell your Amiga to someone that will get more use of it. Make a new Amiga user, we can always use more of them. I am always interested in software, or you can save it to run on UAE if you have any interest anymore. This is not meant as a flame or to provoke you, just a suggestion to stop wasting another Amiga sitting in someones closet.

I have been addicted to plenty amiga games, but these 3 are the games i still find myself coming back to.
And these 3 pinball games are in my opinion the best ones i ever played on any kind of platform with the exception of the real thing.
Pinball games sadly seemed to get extinct after they went 3d... Some games just are most playable in 2d graphics.

Very well said........and very true......with the exception that I actually find Slam Tilt and Pinball Fantasies wayyyy Better than the real Pinball machines............and I despise 3D pinball games for any platform.......they are more annoying than anything..indeed 2D is better for this.
Have you tried Pinball Illusions? it came before Slam Tilt..........its way more realistic........but thats just the problem...it lacks the total fun of Slam Tilt by a little bit.

Populous - I played that HEAPS.
Flight of the Intruder - lived and breathed that for a while too.
Magic Pockets - I think I'm the only one who thought it was fun.
Barbarian 2 - my first Amy game so, not knowing any better, I loved it.
Stunt Car Racer and Microprose F1 GP - Geoff Crammond is a genius.
...but the only game that kept me coming back over and over again, to this day is...

Colonial Conquest II (http://www.aminet.net/package/game/think/ColConqII_v11)

both games i still find very addictive and they are also one of the few games that can be started on my WinUAE OS3.9/AGA/RTG setup from the workbench without the need for WHDLoad or other patches
Colonial Conquest II does however have some bugs in it but nothing you will encounter during regular play. (they pop up when you are really really bored. eg. when you have more than 20 or so colony ships at the same planet and try to (un)load colonists)
In case of The Settlers it is nice to have it be so compatible
while with the pc version of that game i have trouble enabeling sound on Win 98se and XPsp2
Another addictive game is UFO-Enemy Unknown(AGA)
It is also HD installable but seems to feature random crashes when switching between the battlescape and world map.
But this might be due to any number of factors not inherent to the game itself. eg custom patches and the likes wich interfere with Workbench.
The game actually does these switches in a shell script so workbench popping to front and beeing closed again before it had the chance to fully open might be the culprit of crashing when engaging a downed ufo.
The only down side of the Amiga version of UFO is that night mode was never implemented and thus some atmosphere is lost.
And again i've failed to find a working version for modern pc's

I really only played games when I still had my A500, after that with my A2000 and A3000 I just occasionally dropped in a disk, I was more into making mods and BBSes after that.
Anyway, the games that kept me going for hours were (in no particular order):
- Speedball II (icecream! icecream!)
- International Karate +
- Lotus 2 and 3
- Turrican 2
- Final Fight (I know, not the best fighter at all, but I found it very cool for some reason)
- SWIV
- Rodland (admit it, those 2 kids were just too cute :-) )

The Great Giana Sisters!!!!!! Bought TGGS for my cellphone and it sucks! :-( :-( :-( ... It looks the same but the fealing isn't there. The C64 and Amiga version are great though :-) . Plays it on the VICE emulator and E-UAE under AOS 4.0. Great fun! :-)
Oh Slam Tilt rules too... used to play it on my a4k but now I play that too under e-uae. There are loads of great old games but these rocks still today...

That's an easy one: Microprose Formula 1 Grand Prix. Played it until 2000ish on a frequent base :-). I know there were others even more adicted to it (like the authors of F1GPed) but I even went through the pain of writing an AmigaBASIC program that would help setting-up the gearbox. It enabled me to become world-champion in Pro mode, in a Minardi ;-).
Even re-wrote it in ACE-BASIC so that I didn't have to turn off the FastMem (NoFastMem) for running the tool on the old A3000.

Girls don't like Dungeons and Dragons, they like The SiMS and Cosmopolitan Beauty Makeover.
Maybe a new version of Total Chaos should be released so that the elves and wizards can form relationships, settle down and get a mortgage on their newly decorated torture chamber.

Something I always load up for no apparent reason is the PD game Mini Arcanoid (http://aminet.net/game/wb/arcanoid.lha) from Aminet.

You are right, but I can't call "addictive" all the games which keep me coming back. For example, I'm not really addicted to the game I prefer ("Maupiti Island"), and I find this game so close to perfection that I would even find it pejorative. Anyway the word "addictive" is more restrictive than "favourite", isn't it ?

Kings Quest
Not just cos I've got about 7 or 8 of them, but cos I've never finished one! Especially not the one where you're some wizard's slave trying to escape, wizard always zaps me, sigh. Just keeps me going back to them, when I could play my blasted Amiga that is. (Last playable <1995 when I was still a teen, since then I've completed the likes of Broken Sword and Discworld so not a complete moron!)

Just discovered my copy of Cinemaware's Lords of the Rising Sun. It went bad awhile ago, but played it quite often, which is probably why.
Never saved the princess, and I always missed the enemy general after the battle (when you chase him on your horse, cutting soldiers down left and right). Perfect combination of arcade and strategy. Although directing your general through the castles using the mouse was frustratingly difficult.
