Before anybody starts too close to the beginning, I do know what AROS is ;-)

AROS-Max is to AROS what BeOS-Max is to BeOS! :-P

Why don't you download it and see? heheh
I don't know what the heck that means either....but as I've wanted to run AROS on my laptop, this sounds like it!
downloading even as I type!

AROS doesn't have an AHI driver for the soundcard in the emulated machine.  It doesn't matter what soundcard you physically have.  This package is just an emulator running the i386-native CDROM ISO of AROS-Max in a window.

Hope you enjoy it.

I can't take much credit for this, all I did was package the ISO up with the QEMU i386 JIT-Emulator and write a quick batch file to run it.  Took me all of half an hour maximum! :-)

I just thought that this would put AROS out to people who wouldn't have tried it otherwise.  All publicity is good as they say! ;-)

I am going to stop seeding the torrent for a while, as I am going to do some on-line gaming. There are other seeders, though, an I will continiue seeding later tonight.

Wow, I go away for a couple of days and look what happens! :-D

Any visitors to the Max homepage can now see a proper Windows page there, with Par2 files just in case you get a broken download.

I'm also working on a FAQ that should explain most of everything to anyone that doesn't follow AROS quite so closely :-) (including what to do to get the Native version burnt right)

Well that almost made sense ... catch you all later :-)

Oh yeah, thanks go to Nicholas for putting this together - hopefully the Mac emulated copy will open things up to a bunch more people too!

Great news, the more people that try out this version the better.  It might lead to some ex-Amiga coders who were otherwise unaware of of AROS to start helping out with coding.

Tell me about it - when 0.2.0 was released we got through 40Gb of downloads (never mind the Torrent downloads), hence the need for a new ISP ... first question heard was 'is there a windows hosted version?' !

Anyway, there's a link to Olivier's existing Torrent tracker on the Website's download pages, and the Par2 files in the same place can be used if a Torrent download comes out broken.

Based on the file size of roughly 80Mb, thats round about 500 downloads! :-D

Was just curious about a couple of things,  I have a dual boot of Windows XP and Linux on a AMD64 3500+ system.  I am using a Nvidia 6800GT card.

When I boot into Windows and I run the program, I get three choices, If I try the one that has (nvidia) in it, it gives me a bunch of text and ends with what says is a guru.  I'll have to re-boot into Windows and try again to write down the exact error.

But if I pick the first or third one, I get a desktop, a better looking one when I use the first one.

Was just curious as to know would it be because I am using a 6800GT card and it may be too new for AROS-Max?  I'm using the drivers that came with the card.  I could try either an older driver or a newer one.

I'm hoping to get a chance to download the one that I would burn to a cd and try booting directly into it to see it that way.  Or is the .iso file that came in this package the same one that is on the site where I downloaded this?

The copy of AROS thats under Windows is running in a PC emulator (it's a whole virtual PC!) that can't access your hardware directly, hence the NVidia mode doesn't work.  The Vesa mode should be ok, and show whats what though ;-)

In the folder of WinAROS-Max the ISO file is the full 0.2.0 file, so burning it and booting it you might be able to use the NVidia mode (not sure about 6800 support, I know the definitions are getting an update soon though).  It works nicely with GeForce cards :-)

MDMA - we've moved 14Gb of data in the last day!

And we are frontpage news on osnews.com thanks to 4play! :-D

Once I've got the OSX version up and running (should be early-mid next week time permitting) it'll be instersting to see if more people download the Mac version than the windows one! :-D

Cool.  Got to find me a spare CDRW to burn this on and try booting it up.

Thanks.

This is good to see happening. I have tried AROS on every PC I have around the house as well as VirtualPC and QEmu on my PC and my Mac every time there was an update or a change in one of the emulators. It has always worked well for me and been speedy in Qemu. Nice to have it all in a tidy package though now.
