VLC also plays mp3 files... so you could use it for everything.

If all else fails VLC will do the job, clean simple and also play most video formats/codecs.

But does VLC support the eleventy billion different formats Winamp has plugins for? I can listen to SID, NES, SNES, N64, Playstation, Gameboy, GBA, NDS, Genesis, and a bunch of other formats natively in Winamp.

But yeah, Winamp definitely isn't good as a video player. It's just aces for music.
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

I just gave an alternative, VLC do not support as much audio formats as Winamp with plugins no, it has a decent amount of supported format but not near as much. On the video side tho it eats most.

Depending on what TS wand to listen to he can pick which one he likes the most after trying :)

VLC is quite resource light for slower computers also :)

We will see what happens to Winamp now when Radionomy has obtained it :)

WinAmp has a visualization plugin for my Alienware laptop's colorful light-up keyboard, so I like it.  It was also my choice during my early touch-screen "carputer" days.

Even lighter than VLC (which is great) is IrfanView.  Plays audio & video formats, graphic stills (jpeg, Amiga IFF, etc.).  It's even a great simple bitmap editor (one of my most used tools).  It can even display text files and PDFs to some degree.

Plus it has a portable install package as well.
