Hotlinking from Google OneDrive
« on: February 05, 2020, 08:54:30 PM »
Does anyone here use Google OneDrive? I was wondering, can images be hot linked from 1 drive to forum posts using the [img] command? Thanks….    8)

Edit
dunno about this special OneDrive, but as you see above, it doesn't work with the ordinary Google Drive.

Thanks for the test TribbleSmasher.

I see that the name of the file on the OneDrive is named cd-200.jpg
Is there a way to add the file name to the URL? i.e., xxxxxx.jpg in here somewhere? I'm not familiar with the URL structure.

Something like.......
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pWulVp8VgOE39NiVu9LinOL_27PTLzJh/view/.cd-200.jpg

*[img}insert URL here[/img}*

Is cd-200.jpg designated as a "public file"?

Yes, it is public. But it is handled by a javascript, it is not a simple picture you could just link to.

Ahhhhhhh.....  Freakin JavaScript!   ::)
Any free drive space that is hot-linkable to images?
Wondering as GoDaddy's email is no longer free and it's all just getting a little too expensive anymore (as I don't need my old business website any longer).  >:(

Anything known is converted to paid "service", like imageshack.us and the like. If you use a filehoster, they could disappear or simply change their habits.

Yes, I spent a few hours yesterday reviewing all the caveats of using a free host. Guess I'll just have to "bite the bullet" as they say.
Thanks for the test TribbleSmasher!  ;D

Imgur.com should to the trick - they even provide bbcode for inline graphics.

Wow, that's interesting! You don't even need an account to upload there! I just tested and IMG links work just fine! Thanks First Ninja, this just might do the trick as I keep my local pics in folders anyway - I can always re-up if needed (they keep pics for up to 6 months if not viewed). That's long enough to post some forum pics. I guess I would have to keep a txt file for location of the pics for future reference - or get an account.  Thanks again.  :)

Well, that's what i mentioned before: any of those free services might change to subscribers only later on, like imageshack.us, and then all posts with pictures are useless from that point.
It would be better, if we upload the pix to our forum gallery here, but i guess there is a limit on how much one can upload, but i'm not sure.

Oh yea, if I post anything with pics that is of any Amiga historical significance like, hardware / software procedure or the like, I'll definitely post the pics directly on the AO servers after I relinquish my host. I'm just thinking of using hot-linking for something like a sale where I can post the images in the post.  8)
