A2000 floppy drive question
« on: March 15, 2017, 01:08:04 AM »
i have a issue with my floppy drives,i have 3, i can make one internal drive and one external drive work. I would like to get all three to work. I was thinking that address were cable select for the internal drives, but I can not get them to work and some times it stops the external from working. address issues is my guess but I turn my humble self to be schooled in jumpers for the floppy's. also does the red stripe on the ribbon cable go to the power supply side? i got a floppy drive made by Amigakit that has the power supply different, but the jumpers look the same. any help will be rewarded when Amiga rises again and over takes Apple and Microsoft. :rtfm:but before that happens my most humble respect.

Hi there!  Is this the same question you asked seven years ago?

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=53199

Same issue, still?  I'd start by focusing my efforts on getting one drive to work reliably.  Then get a second drive to work reliably.  Then go for the third.  I assume the third is in some kind of external housing, and you're trying to get them to work in this order:

DF0: Internal
DF1: Internal
DF2: External

Have you swapped the jumper on the motherboard to enable two internal floppies? DS1/DS2 settings on the internal drives?  Does the external  floppy have any kind of settings adjustments, or is it just something generic like an A1010?  The red stripe should go to pin 1 on the internal drives.

Some more info in this thread:  http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=11781

One last thought - there's a slight possibility that your power supply may be failing, and not able to support three drives.  Try swapping PSU's (if you still have the three A2000's) or remove any add-on cards, just to eliminate insufficient power as a cause of your problems.  Hope this helps!  :)

Thank you, I understand and used to know how to set up and change floppy address. It is not that simple, yes it is the same problem. I am using the amigakit floppy you gave me during a install of a new Cd card hard drive the floppy kept erroring. I traced it to the ribbon cable, so I swapped one from the 4 A2000 I have, I am using the differant floppy S, cables jumpers, nothing will make both internal drives work. I had them in storage for a few years yes but I upgraded the roms to 3.1 and a new WB. Your old floppy worked for a little and now the drive busy light flashes just once every minute or so. If I hook both up jumpers in ds1 ds0 jumper on 301 and both busy lights stay on or both drives do not do any thing. Bad Gary chip? Paula I remember that one shares controller duties. Just a guess but if I use a new cable from amigakit maybe my issues will go away. The trouble seems to go to any Amiga I use, I have 3 real floppy S and yours and all fail on any machine.
