Computer "bug" Yikes!
« on: May 21, 2008, 09:13:15 PM »
Hi all. The other day, I was scanning some items with my A3000 and had a visit from some nature.

Imagine seeing one of these appearing on your keyboard (while its in your lap):-o. Well, I grabbed my pliers to order to grab it, and it then slipped under the keypad keys. After taking the keyboard apart and squirting some cleaner, it finally ran out, allowing me to squash the little bugger.   :python:

Since I had the thing apart, I did a thorough cleaning, since it needed it.

Anyone else had this kind of experience with unwelcome visitors in your computers?

Yes. I had a friend who fried his motherboard...well ants did anyways. He came home from work and there were a trail of ants climbing up the telephone cable inside the internal modem. Computer never worked after that!

I had a spider short out my C64 internal power regulation area a long time ago, back when I was living in NM.

That's the last time I allowed wee beasties free pass into my stuff.

Sounds like Hitchcocks "The Birds" on the insect level. I think I read that the first computer bug was an actual insect that got fried by one of those old room-sized vacuum tube computers.

I was typing away today, when I felt a tickle under my chin. Yup, a small spider was crawling up my neck. Spring is nice, but stuff crawls out of the woodwork. We probably all swallow a few spiders every year in our sleep.

Still, be glad for spiders. They eat other more annoying bugs =).

Like mothers in-law?  Wasn't there an "Amazing Stories" episode about some giant spider in a warehouse?

Hmm, well I'm a bit biased... I have a pet tarantula, so I like spiders. And, as odin said, they eat other more annoying (and dangerous) bugs like mosquitos, etc.
Oh, and yes, the average person inhales/swallows a number of spiders/ other small insects evey year, not sure the exact number, but around 8-10 per year, IIRC.

(Just had to add that, a Tarantula 'smilie' from my other favorite forum, tarantulas.us)

Would this thread be considered a personal attack on spiders?

Me too! I just know that when I'm asleep snoring with my mouth open tonight a spider is gonna start decending down from the ceiling on its webbing. Gulp!

I was computing the other evening when a monster of a spider dropped onto my shoulder. I've also found giant ones in boxes of old Amiga books. The scary thing is that when you find a big dead spider it is usually only the skin that has been shed by one. This means that it is really still alive but now even bigger :nervous:

LOL

"Well, I grabbed my pliers"

Which is the normal tool for chasing spiders around with, everybody knows.

I have seen little critters run in or out of electronics but never a pop or short from them, lucky for both of us I guess.
