Downloading Large ADF Files onto Floppy ???
« on: June 20, 2003, 07:20:57 PM »
Hi all . OK I got adf Blitzer to run now im wanting some adf files for it to convert. On the amiga classic site i spotted an adventure called Manhunter which is downlaodable in two segment both of which fit on floppy in a zip file. My problem is i cant get lha to recognize a .zip extension and if i unzip the file first on my pc the file is then two big to fit on an amige MS_Dos formatted floppy. I tryed to use a PC floppy and formatted it in PC2: drive on my amiga but then pc wont recogize it in its floppy drive. ? Any ideas or suggestions ?

Umm im stuck again. Ive now got unzip working and ive got  the 2 files unziped and ready to convert from adf. Now ADF_Blitzer has 2 options. Read or Write. Nither seem to do anything. How do i convert what ive got into an exicutable file so i can play the game ? Im getting bogged down with learning all this and i only want to have the skilz to play the game. Im beginning to remember why i shifted to the pc :-( Can someone give me precise/specific instructions in an orderly structure for me to follow so that i can download the files from clasic amiga and play them on my amiga ? Sorry for being such a gurn im just tired as ive been at this all day and still no fun  :boohoo:

It would be easy if you bought a Null Modem cable to connect your Amiga to your PC. The you could transfer files using Dreamterm for example. As far as ADFBlitzer is concerned I think it was the WRITE option that wrote the image to the floppy. Why don't you read the instructions? You will definately find a description of the program's functions there.

If you want to copy a file from the disk image to your HD you could try the unadf program which if I remember correctly has such an option. Open a shell and type unadf ? to get a list of the keywords you can use with it. Even better read the instructions.

A better way to copy files from adf to your HD is to use a program called diskimage. That's the one I use. It enables you to use an adf as a normal floppy disk (It appears on your Workbench as a normal disk). You will have to copy the DI0 DI1 etc files from the archive to Devs:DosDrivers/. The devices that are for adfs are DI2 and DI3. Then you can use the program called DiskimageCtrl to insert adfs to the virtual drives. The manhunter adf will appear on your workbench as if it was a normal disk. You can copy files from it or run the game from the diskimage.

I am sorry I didn't give percise instructions as you requested. If this didn't help give a description of your Amiga (CPU, RAM HD? etc) and I will try to help.

I've just installed ADF_Blitzer and got it working fine.  I used the menu to select DF1 (you'd probably want DF0 - but it's probably selected anyway).  I clicked "Write", selected the ADF, and it happily wrote to the disk in DF1.  At what stage do you have problems?  If for some reason you cannot get it working, I'd again suggest that you try a simpler prog like ADF2Disk.

Don't worry - Amiga is usually far easier to use than windows; it just takes a bit of getting used to.  A lot of people have problems with ADF's, LHA's and disks at first, and they're usually easy to diagnose by someone who's been through them ;-)

Thabks Guys. I finally got it to work. Easy when you know how :-) Put a lot of effort into this and i got a new game now for my amiga called Manhunter on floppy. What a bag o ####e it is though :-( Oh well least i know now for the future. BTW the http://www.classicamiga.com/games_n.php website is trying to make available downloads and reviews of virtually every amiga game published so why not give the guy a hand and post some reviews or better still send him some adf files of the games in your collection.
