Amithilon installing under Linux
« on: January 09, 2003, 10:02:48 AM »
 Is it possible to not run Amithilon off CD, and boot it up from Linux instead? How exactly does this work, I've seen a tutorial to boot it from DOS, but screw that!

It's certainly possible. The Amithlon emulation is a Linux kernel, so it can be booted from Lilo or Grub just as any Linux distribution is.
My Lilo.conf Amithlon boot section looks like this....

image=/boot/new_emubox.gz
label=amithlon
root=/dev/ram0
initrd=/boot/smallird.gz
append="init=/linuxrc console_level=0 ramdisk_size=2310 leavepages=5200"
vga=769
read-only

Of course /boot/smallird.gz is copied from the Amithlon CD and /boot/new_emubox.gz is the new kernel that was available from Bernie's site. The older kernel on the CD will of course boot your machine.
Cache Ya,
Craig.

 Oh ya, I am using Grub by the way.

Offcourse you can use the old kernel or just download this  ;-)

1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Here is a list of mirrors.

 Hmm, it loads to the boing ball, then freezes, just like when I try to boot it off the CD, guess I'll never be able to use it.

that's what happened when i tried it on my laptop. i heard that amithlon doesn't support a P4 (which is what i have on my laptop). there may be fixes for this, but this sort of thing confuses me  :-D

try the amithlon open group on yahoo.
