030/40 to 030/50 worth it?
« on: March 20, 2008, 12:18:13 AM »
Currently I have a Derringer 030 running at 40mhz in my Amiga 500.  Do you guys think it would be worth it to replace the crystal and put a 50mhz 030 in?  Would there be any noticeable speed increase from 40 and 50mhz?

Thank you

Unfortunately, the only other processor card upgrade for the Amiga 500 (which is a vast speed improvement over the Derringer) is a PP&S 040 which are extremely rare.  And, I'd have to sacrifice 24MB of Ram (Derringer can use up to 32Megs while the PP&S can only use 8MB)

I guess I want to try to tweak out as much speed as I can from this computer.

I say if you have the time and desire to mess with it... why not?? While not a drastic improvement, I'm sure you'll notice a little extra "zing".

Once upon a time I changed the crystal of my 030/50 for a 56MHz one. Works flawlessly! But the difference was not THAT big.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
