What kind of new games do people want to see on the Amiga?

Chaos Engine 3

but anything with a strong steampunk theme and lots of shooting will help. :)

What game? hmmm that's a tough one.

It's like asking what car  people would like to buy..> everyone's got different tastes.

I rekon if you do something You like, and it's good enough, gamers will go for it.

The amiga is great for retro gaming so maybe an updated retro game would be a good choice. Personally i'd like a film-tie in game, something like robocop 3 with different levels or even an updated version of 'The killing Cloud' (no tie-in with current events intended!) or even a 3d shooter like 'Virus' from the Archimedes and Amiga vesion.

Failing that, how about a transforming robot toaster that fights other transforming houshold objects eh? :)
That's enough of my way-out suggestions, good luck with it! :)

Just tryin to get a feel for what the current crowd of gamers really likes, or is longing for.

Seems like more than 1 person wants a Japanese shmup style game

though, I did write a Berzerk clone for PC-Engine, :D  That might be funny on Amiga
I am a negative, rude, prick.

Hey, thanks for pointing that game out, ultri007! I downoaded it and tried it out on my A1200 and was really impressed. It ran very smooth for a high res 256 colour game, and it was multitasking nicely while Workbench was running. I love games that I can play while still going online, so I can chat and browse the forums and flick back to my game. I can do that with DOOM and the Sim games which is pretty cool. What a shame this Silencer game was never finished, and even more that the sources were lost! It was written in Assembly so it runs smooth even on a 020 AGA system.

An extra 32 colour registers would have taken up a lot of space on the silicon... you forget that CSG's fabs were VERY old by the time the EHB was added.

I dunno, EHB uses a 6th bit plane and so would a true 64 colour system. Dual Playfield mode also used 6 bit planes too.

I don't think the palette of EHB is an issue given todays excellent image processing tools on PC and Mac to find a very nice compromise. But isn't EHB a severe slouch on the OCS/ECS chipset, hence limiting what kind of 25/50 fps (30/60 NTSC) games you could write anyway though?

YAY!!!!!!

It is 10x more work to make an OS-compliant game than it is to just turn off the OS and take over the machine.  I am glad you are able to make use of the extra work now.  /me *hugs* Cammy's beautiful 32MB RAM chip :knuddel:
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,
Magic Spells and Monsters, Incredible playability and lastability,
English speech, etc. Total Chaos AGA

I think he meant the silicon area of adding another 32 colour registers (12 bits each) and supporting logic. Probably 32 * 12 * 6 (=2304) transistors for the registers alone, maybe a lot for the old manufacturing process that was used when you are talking about chips with tens of thousands of transistors in total (does anyone know the transistor count of OCS/ECS/etc?).

There was an OCS follow-up that was never released called Ranger: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_Ranger_Chipset that was to support 128 colours and high resolutions. It was cancelled due to being too expensive, but that was mainly due to utilising VRAM - it is a shame that a DRAM variant wasn't made for consumer products.

EHB was nice, but they could have also included a complementary colour mode, where the second 32-colours were the complementary colours of the first 32.

On topic: Personally I think a good start for doing games is to port some of the new C64, Spectrum and Amstrad CPC games that are being made to the Amiga, before porting some 80s arcade games maybe.

Arkhan, what is your favourite MSX game?  I'd say choose your favourite MSX game and port to Amiga taking advantage of Amiga's capabilities, that would be interesting. Change the name and some features to avoid being sued by Konami or other major MSX developer that is still around. :)

Space Manbow!  That was a good MSX2 shmup. Besides Apydia and R-Type, the Amiga needs more j-shmups.

Would it be possible to use modified doom/hexen engine for car game?

I think yes, the most advanced engine is skulltag (source port), that support all id Tech 1 games. (And even public multiplayer of doom, heretic, hexen, strife, chex and etc).
Uses OpenGL, i think it possible to recreate car game. I have seen more difficult/complex projects =)
